Real depth for Gold ?

Hello ,

I'm interested in the X Terra 70 model for finding gold that my old SD2100 PI detector can't see, very small nuggets plus certain gold specimens .

Now my research so far is saying that the XT-70 has trouble with depth on hot ground ( mineralised ) .

Please real users , anyone care to comment ?

Regards
Bob.

Any VLF machine will suffer on HOT ground its just a fact of life. I had a GP extreme when they came out new..... now that detector found me some pretty small gold. Your 2100 is a nice detector and cant really be compared to the all round X-terra except maybe when it comes to the price......$1000 for a new detector is pretty damn good if you ask me. Will it find gold? of course it will....any detector is capable at finding any object. Does the X-terra 70 handle HOT ground very well? No....BUT! The sensitivity setting is your best friend when it comes to hot ground and even though you will obviously miss some targets at a low sensitivity setting you will still be able to detect. For a machine that has been built for all round use your getting a bargin for your cash......and yes it will find small gold with the right ground conditions, however if your mainly detecting HOT ground all the time you might get a little frustrated with the XT-70 unless your like me I have no problem using this little baby day in day out for all occassions whenever I can. I can honestly say Im totaly happy with the XT-70. The DD coils are a great tool when it comes to prospecting mode and since purchasing my elliptical DD coil I couldnt be happier with the results. After using your 2100 you will be disapointed when it comes to depth when compared to the XT-70. The new minelab 4000 is supposed to be awsome on small gold and maybe if your a serious nugget hunter thats the way you should go. If your like me and can only get out to the gold fields every so often for a bit of fun then the XT-70 is your weapon. On a last note any detector in the right hands can do what you ask it.
Cheers!

I'm sure that there are what are commonly referred to as 'sponge gold' pieces laying underneath waiting for us detect.....or rather not detect if thats the case. But I can tell you this, in more than twenty years of detecting for gold on quiet reef workings and on heavy ground, Im buggered if I have found a piece with a vlf that my PI's cannot detect. That is ofcoarse not saying there arent any, because I know there are, but rather there are bugger all of them to worry about.

Yes my XT70 does have trouble in hot ground, we are talking about fair dinkum hot ground (10"DD 7.5khz round coil settles it down a bit) and the sensitivity has to be cut to blazes, but my PI's have trouble in hot ground also
My XT70 is a thousand dollar pleasure to use in all situations, depth in hot ground a bit less than the best minelab gold Vlf's (mainly due to larger coils). My PI's are a heavy five grand apiece overpriced moanhounds that need too much gold to be found just to keep them running with differing gear needed.

I would say - Do not pass up on the Xterra70 because it has trouble in hot ground, all detectors do. DO buy the Xterra70 because they are the most pleasurable ID'ing detector ever made for the goldfields!!!(or any fields for that matter) plus they use only four AA bateries and are superlight.... etc etc.

This is the sort of feedback I wanted, Real users.

Thanks Argyle & Nugget71.

Good clear posts by both of you !
Many thanks.

Regards Bob.

The X-Terra 70 with the 5x10 DD 18.75kHz coil can find nuggets as small as 1/2 grain at 4-5". and this was in the hot ground of northern AZ.

Where I live, in NW Oregon, the X-Terra 70 doesn't do all that bad and we have some nasty mineralization.

I worked with one of the higher frequency coils, and while it did 'OK' and the DD design did help handle the ground a little better, I found that the standard 7

Thanks Monte & JW for your positive comments.

One bug-bear I have with Minelab is that they don't give you the option of what coil you would like when buying this detector in the first place.

Have Fun
Bob.
