Can anybody tell me if any of tesoros machines has the three tones. Got into this hobby using an ace 250 would love to get a tesoro but I really like the three tone sounds.... thanks in advance

The Golden UMax has 4 tones, you can adjust it so you only hear 1 if you really want to, or three or two. I have one and really like it for hunting parks and tot lots and such.

You can find good used ones for around 300-330, maybe even better than that if you find the right deal. Golden UMax's rock...and if you liked the ace 250, you will love the Golden...just sayin.:detecting:

You guys really make it hard. I have a Silver umax and the 250 and use the Ace for trashy areas and am trying my best to hold my discipline to NOT getting another detector:stretcher: But here goes-and I know I'm gonna hate this question-Why would I like the Golden more?

silver has same or better depth!..why move it?

it has a 4 tones for target ID (Great for coins/jewelry in parks)
I had one a few years back, and let a friend talk me out of it. (Kick myself all the time for that one) I found another one though and it won't leave, after I get it here......... you can bet on that.

My Golden will stay here....never be for sale. It has several very good qualities, which make it a versatile machine. The tones, the depth, all the goodies it finds....day after day....what more could a person ask for.....seriously?

One good tone is all I need. I will dig if its a solid tone. I trace out the sound to find chains(scratchy and long) and other items that you might not dig. I guess if your picky on what you dig you can use more tones! I dig up a lot of tabs and junk metal but who doesnt. If you dont you will miss good finds. IMHO.

if you don't mind me asking, what kind of depth are you getting on coins?
thanks!

Thanks to all who replied.....The reason I asked about tones is because I thought it would be less of a learning curve if my next detector was similar to what I started with.Ive never used a detector with one tone but I am curious, but I read these forums all the time too many people asking for advice how to run their brand new machine and are not satisfied with what they bought..I love the ace 250 that I started with but I know its depth is limited I had the oppertunity to try garretts more expensive machines and found them heavy and uncomfortable so I turned to tesoro which are light, dependable, deep and a great warranty but I dont want to be discouraged if I cant figure out how to run it as well as my 250.....So I guess the question Im asking is how great of a learning curve will I face by buying a tesoro?????

That one sound is NOT one sound! I started with an ACE 250 and moved up to the Cortes (TID) and bought a Vaquero this March and have only used the Cortes 2x this year I love my beep and dig and yes you will dig a bit more trash at first but as you dig those things you learn to pay better attention to what that "one" sound is telling you....dont be afraid of beep and dig,you DONT need a screen...as a matter of fact you may have better finds results not depending on it. My 2 zincs.

If you have patience and learn what the machine is telling you, you will be a very happy satisfied TH'er. If you think that the more money you throw at it, the easier it will be....then it will not matter what brand of detector you buy...you have to learn any of them....that's just the way it is.

As far as learning curves, that all depends on you and how bad you want to learn it. I did a lot of reading about the tesoro's before I bought my first detector, I asked questions, and picked peoples brains with any question I could drum up. Then I got my first tesoro, read the book over and over and took it out and started learning it. It took me a week or two to get real comfortable with it, and once I did I was very confident about how to use it and become more effective with it.

Personally I believe they are very easy to use right out of the box if you pay attention to the instructions in the manual....and you pick up pretty quickly what it will and wont do. Then it's just a matter of putting in your time with your machine and learning the differences in tone, whether it is a one tone machine or a 4 tone machine.

I wouldn't trade my Tesoro's for any other brand, no how...... no way.

Little John, the Garrett Ace 250 is a good detector for sure.
IMHO the Tesoro Golden is better.
It is a little more powerful, has better iron rejection, higher quality build, and larger selection of coils.
The one thing you will notice is that it is smoother running than the Ace 250, not quite as much noise.

Whoa .....Hold up...I have only ever owned Tesoro's.

I have a silver, a golden and a Tejon....I am a happy camper with the detectors I have. Not sure how your quote got scrambled up the way it did......but I agree 100% with your post...the Tesoro's rock! Just found my first GOLD ring with the Tejon tonight.

have been hunting for over 20 years. have had BH, Whites, Garrett and minelabs. fancy TID screens, notch discrimination and all the bells and whistles. spent as much time tuning, adjusting and programming as i did detecting. finally got sick of all the adjusting and bought a Deleon about a month ago. what a great machine, you turn it on and hunt, no messing around. i coin hunt in alot of places with LOTS of iron chunks and nails. Tesoros are amazing when it comes to iron discrimination and depth. I like the Deleon so much i just ordered a high tone Cibola. going back to the basics and enjoying my hunts much more. could have saved myself alot of money and aggravation if i would have bought a Tesoro years ago.
