reading screen in the sun

vargg

New member
ok sure its been discussed to death but how do you guys deal with trying to read the screen in the sun ??? been huge problem for me especially the depth gage.

Just turn away from the sun, but not the Son........nge

Display sun glare is my number one issue with the eTRAC.
One of those non-glare screen films helps a 'little', emphasis 'little'.

Glare is only part of the problem, the bigger problem IMO is a low contrast display with a darkish gray background and black graphics which direct sunlight will wash out.
Add sunglasses to the mix and its impossible to see display readouts under direct sunlight conditions.

I have a much less problem viewing the display on my ATPro under direct sunlight. But then again the ATPro has a high contrast display with a whitish background and black graphics and it costs less than half the price of the eTRAC.

I either shade the display with my hand which is a PITA because its usually holding my digging tool or like nge, just sweep in a direction where there's no glare.
Gonna experiment by jury rigging some kind of removable shade over the display to see if that helps. If anyone here has done that, i'd sure like to see a picture of it.

never any real sun here (MT) so not a problem.....!!!!! In fact I'll probably get rained on again today.........

I have had some success with the windshield tint plastic from autoparts store. Not perfect but better most of the time.. Buy the lowest tint color.

I would like to see someone make a meter cover with an extended hood coming out from the top over the meter........ I may give that a shot in the near future..

Someone has already made a "visor" that attaches with Velcro on their CTX. I think they are still in the prototype stage.....nge

WHen the sun is out and hot it is tough to see. it's true about the learn by tones method, when the screen is blacked and hard to read stay alert and listen to the tones.

I also use the screen cover for High tech equipment, Z>A.G.g. which I don't think they allow named here on the fourm but this is where I learned of it. It helps cut down glare but I also use the Minelab cover as I don't want the dust getting onto or into the equipment, this makes it even worse. I tend to shade it as much as possible when in the hot direct sun. I also will check numbers and graph location but if I cant see them then I trust sound overall.

hope that helps.

good luck.

Is it any easier to see when your "upside down" in the land down under? Do they have bright sunshine in the " Land of Oz " ?;) Beware of those who wink!!!
