I just don't get it. These people would rather leave everything in the ground. Just don't understand it.

Just more rules and regulations from people who have no common sense. Like everything else they may let you do it if you will register your detector yearly and for a small fee. Sorry about the rant but it seems like everything we do now days is being directed, taxed, banned, etc, by some govt. agency that has no idea what they are doing....LL, Mesa, Az. BHTR T2

I agree. I think the best, if not only, thing we can do right now is sign the Louisville petition and let them know how you feel. If they get enough signatures perhaps they will rethink the ban. After all, they don't ban pets because a few dig holes that they don't cover. They don't ban them when they poop on the grass and irresponsible owners don't clean it up. They spend a tremendous amount of time and taxpayer money repairing damage done from playing various sports and cleaning up the trash some of them leave behind. I have seen the divits left by golfers practicing in our local parks as well as the scars left from cleated shoes. No one seems to care or complain about that. Nobody talks about trying to ban them or require permits. I don't see any other group of park users picking up and disposing of dangerous trash items such as needles an other "sharps", live ammunition, can slaw from the mowers, etc or trying to live by any code of ethics while using the public parks. The city officials seem to accept and even expect that normal use of the parks will require some maintenence to be performed. So why ban a group of users who try to leave the park in better condition than we find it? They shouldn't ban an entire group of users o one activity just because once in a while a jerk comes along and does something wrong. If that's how they determine who gets to use the parks then no one would be allowed to use them. There are jerks in every walk of life participating in every activity. Maybe it is because we aren't seen as part of an organized group and are seen as just some eccentric individuals "digging up" the park looking for treasure. I have to believe that the officials have NOT done any research into whether metal detectorists are really a detriment to the parks or they would have come to a different conclusion. They are probably just responding to the concerns, complaints, and pressure from a few including the archeological departments of the schools. If they bothered to check they would find that after we finish using the parks they would be hard pressed to see any evidence that we had been there. That cannot be said about most park users or activities.

All good and true, however, liberals aren't happy unless they are controlling everything you do. A liberal's answer to everything is "no". Liberals always gravitate to positions where they can control. Sorry for the politics but get ready, you will not recognise out country in 2 years!

SS, I agree. More government is never the answer. I say they should create a new governmental department to monitor the affects of additional government departments, Just kidding. James

Now now now. Don't tar all of us liberals with the same brush. I live in a blue state and I enjoy my liberal views. However, on this topic I'm in complete agreement. I prefer to name the folks in local government who show no common sense after certain body parts. It's a lot more fun and can be equally applied regardless of political affiliation.
