Re: Tesoro Golden U Max (New Tones) Vs. Old?

Anyone had both New and Old Tone Models to compare as far as pure raw Depth?
I never had a Old Tone But heard they were not Depth Monsters? I have a New Tone with the Brown 8" Donut and have been Surprised at depth on Coins in My Mild ground. Maybe got a Hot one? Dug a Clad dime that was in mild soft soil that must have sank, But it was over 8" close to 8.5" and had the Proper Highest Tone soft and Modulated , But repeatable. Ran it Hot though with Sens. in Red before chatter, Disc. Wide open , Threshold to slight Hum. My ground is Mild and soil was nice and moist so perfect conditions, But still impressive to Me. And I have a couple Depth Monsters. But would not hesitate to take it Deep coin Hunting.

was not in the 'depth monster' category. Every Tesoro I had on-hand at that time, Compadre, Silver Sabre µMAX, Bandido, Bandido II, Bandido II µMAX, Eldorado and Pantera using a 7" Concentric to 'standard' coils, could match or better anything the Golden microMAX could do.

I had a detecting friend who reported back after he got rid of his 'original' and later acquired the replacement version Golden microMAX, and he said the newer version detected deeper, and usually worked better with the 4-Tone audio. It didn't do as well, and ended up being more of a 3-Tone, like we had experienced with the 'original' version, when used in a very highly mineralized environment.

I hope your unit is working out for you. I have my list of 'favorite' Tesoro models I am working on filling, and trying to find a cream-puff condition and excellent working discontinued model is tough. I only have a few favorite left to add to my detector battery, and I hope they work well just as I hope your new acquisition works as you hope it to.

Monte

I have NEVER had trouble getting four tones. Even when the disc is set above iron, I get the iron tone when hitting large iron. I love mine. It's the original. Monte is right about depth. I have hit hit deep pulltabs, some were 8"! With fresh batteries and the dis set low and the sensitivity set high, I can get a dime at 6". That is about as good as it gets, but that is with a 7" WS. My Golden was sent into Tesoro to tune it with that coil. I will be trying the new 7" concentric on it , that came with the Mojave. But I what I will probably do in the long run is acquire an 8" concentric and send it in for tuning. I have read that many report decent depth with THAT coil.

I have never tried the new tone, but have the last made of the old tone model. My soil is a bit harsh (around 90 on AT Pro) and until recently would have considered it hopeless on depth and also tone holding ability at quite shallow depths, the tone would distort at way to shallow depth. But after adjusting the ground balance a tad ,what a difference. It now really surprises me with not only the depth it gets ,but also the clarity of its tones at depth, the 2 middle tones stay quite distinct , wouldn't have believed the Golden at all this capable.
I also find the Golden to be pretty good at unmasking. A while ago I buried 3/4 ( hit by mower) of a high conductive coin in the trashiest nail infested area along side the house at about 4 1/2 inches. The AT Pro is pretty sharp in this kind of environment, but even with the 8 inch or even with the snake coil it's not a dig signal. But the golden will give a clear high tone from one direction and a stop and look from another.

Yes I believe Mike Hillis has done a GB Modification?
Lucky My ground is Mild. And Yes it does separate good as Dug a Wheatie about an inch away from a Pull ring tab.
Wheatie was couple inches deeper and could easily seperate it with the a Concentric coil. Man they should have kept this Baby in the Line-up for us Tone I.D. Guys.
