Re Repairs and up grade

Philo_NY

New member
I have a question for all who have up graded their CZ 20 to a 21? Can you please private message me and tell me what Fisher was or is charging you to up grade your CZ 20 to a 21 in the last year or so, because as we all know, there are no more parts for the CZ 20, they can not be repaired, but I believe that a fair price should be charged.

First, we are at the mercy of the new people at Fisher, because they are about the only ones you can go to, to either repair or up grade your CZ 20. When I receive any messages from fellow CZ 20 owners here, I'll know what to do with mine, and clear up some issues I have with Fisher Lab's. I have been a loyal Fisher customer for many years, since I have been in this hobby since 1977, and have had 2 CZ 20's, 3 6a's, and a 4 scope, which in the past was charged a fair price for repairs when Fisher was owned by Fisher.

Please, I am not looking to cause any problems, but wouldn't you want to pay a fair price for repairs and up grades for any of your detectors? Thanks for any help on this matter, send me some quotes or estimates, because what I was just quoted for an up grade is not a fair price, and I refuse to pay it. I'd rather buy a new one and get the life time guarantee...

The current warranty is a limited 2 year warranty on the water proof detectors (CZ21 and 1280-X).

If it needed a coil too, I'd expect that to increase cost. I haven't needed to have mine done yet (knock on wood). It has kept going so far, so I don't have a good reference point.

If you do a search on this CZ forum over a year time frame for the words "upgrade cost" you should find a thread about 11 months old. Then search on the words "upgrade price" and you will find a thread about 6 months old. That may help with a couple of data points.

In my opinion, if the quote for upgrade was somewhere near what the threads indicate, you will end up with essentially a new detector for much less than a new one would cost.

Good luck with however you end up going with it.

No more lifetime warranties from Fisher 5 year only! Man the new Fisher is a great company and their charges on repairs is very reasonable!! And their customer service is top notch!! I think they got some of the most knowledgeable people in the business!! They know their stuff and they have a very fast turn around on repairs!!

Also, I don't work for Fisher even though I'd love to! They are a great company!!

You mean, they were a great company, because that is my point with them now since the new people took over...

Just looking to see how they are charging double for what I was told just a year or so ago, not good...

I'd rather buy a new water detector, and it's not going to be a Fisher. Waited two days for a RA number after waiting on hold for over 50 minutes, had to leave a voice mail that were not answered, and when I did get through, I was told that I was lucky I eveb got through to speak with Felix, what did he mean by, I was lucky to get through... Two more days for an estimate after no returned calls, and spoken to like I was some beginner to metal detecting. I felt as though I went to a big deals office, and left outside so the biggie can show how much power he has... That is not the way to run a business...

300 I think is what they were charging for the upgrade my buddy had his done and I think they gave him a 2 year warranty with it he seems pretty happy and the depth on it he said was the same as before which was great.

Well, Philo, I've heard Felix's version of the story. Be thankful that you didn't get transferred to me.

For what it's worth, Felix helped me out twice in the last year - once with my CZ20/21 convert and most recently with a T2 that needed a number of fairly small things fixed. He was a little hard to get ahold of - I get the feeling he's extremely busy - but it only took a couple phone calls to get him and they turned the detector around quickly.

It's my sincere hope that Fisher's detectors, customer service and repair service just continue getting better and better - I've tried other water detectors and keep coming back to using my CZ21. It's built like a tank and finds enough for me to be quite happy. While I like the technology of the other leading water detector brand that most everyone I see has, the reliability, quality and customer service have kept me away from them so far - as long as Fisher continues offering what I've gotten from them in the past, they'll continue seeing my $$ - I just recently bought a new CZ21 with 10" coil for my wife to use.

I don't recall what the cost was to convert my CZ20 several years ago, but at the time I didn't think it was too bad. I had to do it cause the pinpoint button finally died on me and the detector was stuck on a single loud tone whenever I turned it on otherwise it would still be a CZ20 and going strong paying for itself many times over.

I probably shouldn't be sticking my nose in here being that I am a Tesoro kind of guy but after almost 30 years in the hobby you learn a thing or two even if you aren't trying to & one of the things that I have learned is that Dave J. and Felix are top notch.

Philo, I am sorry you had a bad experience. As a pastor I have 30 years of patient/hospital stories. I found that some people have bad experiences with the best hospitals, but the vast majority have very good ones. No business can make 100 per cent of its customers completely happy. I know that First Texas takes seriously customers needs and works to keep fees reasonable and responsible. I cannot dispute your claims other than to say your experience is VERY different from my own and the vast majority I have read or heard. The fact that they are willing to do an upgrade speaks volumes for them. I can't think of any other company doing that (there may well be many I can think of any). Since you seem so bitter maybe it would be best to just see if another maker would make you happier.

Is your detector broken? If not I wouldn't get the conversion done. The only downfall is there is very few detectors out there that have multi-tones and get the depth of the cz-20 or 21. Good luck with what you decision.

I had a good turn around on my 20 to 21 conversion. They sent me a all most brand new machine back with a year warranty. I haven't used it yet but I'm going to a creek to do some relic hunting tomorrow. I'll post what I find tomorrow.
