RE: Pin Pointer

There was some interest in this. I couldn't find my original subject line, maybe it was removed, moved or ??? So I'll put it here. There was a discussion in these forums about pin pointers. Someone mentioned Harbor Freight was carrying one for 15 buck. My local store had a couple in stock so I got one for my kid and I. It is, of course, non-discriminating, being basically a "body scanner." It will find a penny about a inch away from the tip or anywhere along the shaft. So, you can dig a hole, use this to look for the object you detected in the bottom of the hole, or ring the hole and quickly look in the dirt the came out of the hole. Since it's all metals, I wouldn't want it to have much range, I'd probable be digging for things my BH said no to. It comes with a belt pouch and a shrink-wrap sealed general purpose battery, thats cool, I tossed in my Cary all bag for a spare 'cause it wont short out, and put a Copper-top in the unit. It has a sensitivity control and a push button for operation and a audio transducer for sound. Unit also has an medium bright LED as a flashlight. The only real negative I've found is the push to detect switch switch is rather easy to engage and unless you are careful, you could get something up against it and find the battery dead when you need it. Be sure you Cary a spare. Hope this helps a little.

Yup. I used it yesterday, Sunday. It saved me alot of time locating targets.
I'll never leave home without a pinpointer agai, this one or a more expensive one.
Remember, its a cheapo $15 so there will be things one won't like about the
machine, I'm sure. Now if it were one of the expensive ones, I'd say we would all have a right to
be ticked off at its faults. But for $15 dollars I'll hold my peace. I recovered alot of
targets yesterday.
