I may be up to Texas in a couple of weeks. I cross at McAllen, and am planning on a slow trip up coast with lots of :detecting:stops. I know that there are several areas that MD

Dr. Steve metal detecting is now allowed on padre island. I just talked to the park ranger there. the only thing they dont allow is leaving big holes uncovered. He said they recently had someone dig a 5 foot hole where an old shower use to be and the guys found a sack full of quarters, then left a five foot hole uncovered.Other than that you can hunt miles and miles of shoreline daytime or nightime. The only place that doesnt allow them is the national seashore area and permits can be obtained for that also. However you would need a very good 4 wheel drive to get back there. You can contact the park ranger on padre island at 361-949-8122

Thanks for the great info, Larry! My Tahoe is 4X4. What did you find out there?

I have never detected it. I did live there for 2 years back in the hippy days. We had a commune back behind the sand dunes where there was a fresh water pond made by drillers. back in the early 70's most everything there got destroyed by a series of hurricanes including bob hall pier. one of the longest piers in america. They have since rebuilt it,but there is always thousands of people in and on the beach there. Spring break is big down there too. I'm about 20 miles south of dallas so corpus cristi is a lobg haul from here. I sure would love to detect there though. you can do a search for padre island coin clubs . I'm sure there are many there and someone would go hunting with you. Especially since you have a 4x4 lol Good luck hunting my friend. Lot of ships have wrecked there
