Hello Joe! I rapted to hear you had a great time out detecting, and the old canadian coin sounds like a very nice keeper. It's a bit difficult to detect very close to the foundations of some buildings, as they could contain all types of metal, etc, and that's why your detect goes heywire. I tried detecting close to the foundations of my house, and it does the same thing. But if you could get under the building, if it's not on concrete, but on say, wooden stumps, then you may be able to get around it. If you get a chance to post a few photos of your finds, including any old roofing nails, and other rubbish, it could give us an idea of how old the building might've been, and what you're likely to find there on site. If you are getting pull tabs, you might have modern rubbish there too. this can make it annoyed to detect. Some of the spots I go to, there are no modern rubbish like drink cans, pull tabs or crown caps. I can garrauntee that anything I pull out of the ground, will be very old, seeing the sites are not visited by anyone. That's makes it more fun and interesting too. I was also thinking, if there are any very old trees, like oaks, elms or pine trees, there ight be a bottle dump hidden under the roots, or around the tree, and other old relics. It pays to run your detector over these areas too, as your machine might pick up on any metal, like lead bottle tops or seals, old lanterns and fob watches, etc. Take your time detecting there, and try gridding the area to cover it properly. You should have several weeks if not months of good detecting there. Keep us informed how you go!
