Minelab Explorer Forum under Re: TIPS NEEDED....you'll need a lot of gold...Philo_NY 7/29/05 2:45 AM posting! Good info for those with Minelab Explorer Detectors....don't have one myself, but have White's Spectrum XLT and have similar program set up but don't have the jewelry for testing like he does and don't go out often either! Need to hunt almost everyday to find what he finds!

God Bless!

My problem is that I just don't have that much gold :) As I go on, I'm modifying one particular pattern that I use in trashy areas. However, when I'm near the water / shallow surf, there just isn't that much trash so it's really not a problem. I use only use just a tiny bit of iron mask (discrimination). So, unless it's iron, I'm going to dig anyway.

The Exp II can do some amazing things, but when you start to discriminate out certain trash items like tabs and the like, you're going to miss some gold. For instance, my wedding band and one that I found, will not read if I discriminate out one particular square tab. I have 3 other gold pieces that show up just like foil; one that is exactly like the little round ones that people pull off of Gatorade bottles (they sound soooo good :) ).

One little pendent I found sounds like and reads just like a piece of rolled up aluminum foil (because of it's shape)

It definitely is beneficial to use discrimination in heavier trash areas though... I've got 2 silver quarters so far at the beach and both were picked out of REALLY trashy areas in dry sand.

Oh, I got your note by the way... some story you've got there Betty... Hope you're feelin' OK.

Tahke care!

I thought the tips were good as far as I could understand! I can program my White's XLT to accept or reject, but not to the extent you and Joe can with your detectors. The Iron Mask and the Window parts I don't have on my machine, so 'tis unclear to me!

God Bless & Happy Hunting!
