rbholt80 you solved the trashy park problem : )

You discovered the cause of why I wasn't getting the dime signal 8 inches away from a piece of trash that was 3 inches higher then the coin..THE SENSITIVITY was below 20 when I did the test, I increased it to 24 (a bit unstable) but I was able to hear the dime 3 inches away which makes me very happy...They should put in the manual that the sensitivity setting effects depth as well as detecting in trashy areas (the higher the better)..I actually increased it to 30(really unstable) and was almost able to pass the coin under the 3 inch glass test with the pulltab on top

You could have used a little more prudence and discretion in what you were claiming in the first place.

It's great that you've managed to solve the problem and with the help of who ever that helped you solve it.

You might try sens. around the 27 range. That seems to still allow some difference in deep vs shallow target sound. Good Luck..

I went to the vision forum and posted, in my defence I had a legit claim and noone here coughed up an answer to it so I assumed along with the email that I received from minelab that there was a problem...I did the master reset and used the factory coin program plus auto sensitity, I did everything that was suggested by minelab and it still was doing it....You actually have to run the sensitivity to pretty much a bit unstable(in my area) to seperate the trash better, Auto keeps me below 20 which is bad

Yeah , that's true but there were a couple of other possibilities put forward and I guess one of them had to be right and it's great that one of them worked for you.

For some reason your posts on the matter puts the image of a squeaky gate in my mind.........though it's probably good for Minelab and the Etrac that you brought this to the attention of others who may have had doubts of the Etracs ability.

Hope to see the results of your "labor" soon.

Here's some food for thought I run my E-Trac in auto +3 my average sens runs about 19 I have found over 50 silver coins this year the reason I run in auto is so the e-trac will get out a null faster. It is more stable and I still dig deep coins I have found coins at 12" deep some my hunting Buddy's with Whites could not even get a sound. Most coins are not that deep 6" is an average depth and the ground here in the Willamette valley is tough. I dont see how running with high sens in heavy trash would make it better. kind of like driving in fog with your high beams on I do switch back and forth to Quick mask wide open and I do use Manuel sens to check deep targets I have used all the Explorers and I have an EXP2 also. the E-Trac is the best I have ever used Good luck with yours . slow and low HH RONC

Ron I think running in auto(in my case) actually keeps the etrac in null longer due too keeping the sensitity below 20, I hunt in very trashy areas(NY parks) and need to get coins in between and next to surface garbage...I'm going out tomorrow for a few hours to a park I gave up on (gave up only 3 pennys) and see how increasing the sensitvity helps

RONC(OR) I know how your thinking with the sense but after doing the test that every one was having problems with it seem the e-trac isnt logical cause increasing the sense will make it hit targets closer to other target and if you want to really get next to junk learn how to handle the horrible sounding long tone or smooth. Try the junky park test and you will see what we are saying. But you dont have to its up to you. I mean if your doing good and you feel you got the hang of it then great have fun .

Bug I tried your test and I could not get the dime on the pass but I could get it on the return 1 beep wih the pro coil if I heard that while hunting I would do a wiggle and find out why I heard a high tone or turn 90 to the target what makes the exp series so good is its tone ID so even a chick peep is worth investigating good luck HH RonC

.......Troy.

Glad you can appreciate it. Not everything can be "fingered" out( I take it you meant figured out).....but some of us at least DO try. Sometimes we stumble.......

Anytime you think you know as well or better and can help out, by all means jump in.

Just remember that MOST of us on this and other forums still consider ourselves to be part of the HUMAN race.

So it was an operator error and not a mechanical malfunction, glad you figured it out. Manual sens can be chattery sometimes, but seems like it's deeper than auto on same setting. sometimes you can get it quiet down by scrolling through the noise cancel channels manually, and i was told to noise cancel on manual 30 sens and adjust from there. Difficult ground setting can reduce falsing or even high trash selected. Something about the additional filters involved, but i try not to use them both even though i suppose you could...HHH

Remember, your stability can vary dramatically with not a very big change in location. I can often go from manual sens of 24 w/ instability to perfectly stable at manual 30 with a change of a few hundred feet. BTW if I let the detector have its way in auto, the only way it ends up over 20 is if I give it a +3 boost, and auto sens is definitely affected by the trash in the ground. Get yourself some smaller elliptical coils for working those areas. I find my 5x10 works great in trash. Have a 4.5x7 also but haven't even tried it yet.
