Razor back coils

OLD FART

New member
I wonder if they could make razor back coils for the infinium? I am sure it would interesting to see if they could solve some of the falsing and maybe give more sensitivity for small gold. Too bad we couldn't talk him into making a couple experimental coils to try. If they worked ,great ,he could probably sell a ton of them. Only wishing.

I'll drink to that - but please perfect the 8 mono also!

I have put my finny on craigs list. I have all the coils for it. I don't have any problems with my 8 inch and 10x14 mono coils. They run smooth. I don't hip mount because of the falsing. I wrap the coil wire tight and then tape the heck out of it to the shaft. No falsing. The main thing is to not raise the coil up at the end of your swing. Keep the coil the same distance from the ground thru the whole swing of the coil. Ever run an old t/r machine and if you got the coil too close or too far from the ground it would sound off. Treat the infinium the same way and it should work for you with no falsing. I know it is a pain in the butt, but it is the only way I can make mine work properly. I don't relic or beach hunt. My main focus is gold nuggets. I find that the finny is not as sensitive on small gold as I would like it to be. I had a chance to use a whites tdi and since it is lighter and seems to be deeper and more adaptable to finding smaller gold, I have decided to sell the finny and get a whites tdi sl. Just my 2 cents worth. If I could afford it, I would keep the finny and also purchase the tdi. I am retired and on a fixed budget so you know how that works. I hoped this has helped a little with your troubles with the finny. Never give up, never surrender.

Thanks for the words of wisdom OF - I have found all the answers to getting the Finny to hum along smoothly.(with the help of many others) I find it hard to believe there is a machine that would find smaller crumbs than the Finny with the 8 mono. Don't know where you hunt but I have recently found a flake of gold that tipped the scale at 3 grains - I'll say that again 3 grains. I was hunting on exposed bedrock and heard only a small break in the threshold. It didn't give the dual tone but just a short quick very small break in the steady smooth tone of the hum. The first time I have ever located anything that small. I'm glad I have a good pinpointer because when I broke the bedrock cracks apart PPing with the Finny was not going to find it. The flake was about 1 inch down in the crack and covered with blacks. Once the flake was recovered I decided to work the bedrock cracks at that location and came up with smaller crumbs and flour the Finny couldn't see. I work at this because there are no clunkers here in Vermont - it's find the fine gold or nothing. It is important to have a nice smooth steady tone when running a PI machine.
I know what you mean about the fixed income. I am retired also. When I plunk my money down I really need to have a machine that will produce and work as intended. You can always revisit the Finny down the road if not happy with other units. The rear shaft extension for mounting the Finny box really worked well for me as far as weight goes. Don't know how but mounting the box back there eliminated the weight problem for me. Seems like it cut the weight in half.....somehow. Good luck with your tdi - hope you find some mellow yellow out there.

Ray - I got the 8" shipped to Garland Texas , Mira said she'll fix me up. I explained that neither of the 14" do it & I need my unit for Prospectin' they said no prob.

K~D

Hope you get one as smooth humming as mine. I am really happy with it! I think you can tell from my tool list :0)

My 14" Hums fine but need the 8" for Backup & tight Areas (may PP a little easier too) but I get good depth on the 14"M so far it's All i've used.

K~D the 8 PPs good using the front edge of the coil and, if needed, use the X approach. I've never used the 14 mono but I'm betting if you have never used the 8 mono you will be surprised. The 8 mono, when coin, relic and nugget hunting, holds it's own with the 14 DD. if i was to go to a salt water beach the 14 DD would be the coil I'd use.

I look forward to giving the 8" a try as well. I sent U a PM Ray.

gotcha - and thanks for the morning poetry!

Old Fart---I read your june4,2012 post on the infinium and am shocked that 2 months later you are selling it--what happened??

Hmmm - I think OF said, "deeper/smaller. I could see the reasoning around selling the Finny to balance cost of new purchase but, for me, I'd never part with my Finny. Finding smaller gold than the Finny can find?? That may be a lesson in futility. Maybe with the Gold Bugs. Also, the falsing at the end of the swing is more related to the swing speed. If you experience this "end of swing" falsing try slowing down your swing speed. It works for me.

Heck Old Fart , thought U sold it like a Year ago, or so ;(

Ray , on the News rt. now there's a Fire South of Prescott (forest) I Smelled burning Mesquite smell this evening, - I'll keep an eye on it in case it travels
