Rattlesnakes.............

Kelley (Texas)

I found these pictures of the rattlesnakes while searching for bear pictures this morning after reading Mike's Post about the bears he saw while out gathering some berries. I do not know where the pictures were taken. Kelley (Texas) :)

that I can. I would think that you folks would not have very many snakes because of the cold climate. The problem with the rattlesnakes is that they blend in with the surroundings and are often difficult to spot. During dry spells, they are especially dangerous because they will hang out around the stock tanks because of the need for water. Kelley (Texas) :)

i would rather deal with Bears Fred. There was a time in my misspent youth when i messed with Rattlesnakes, then i grew up:biggrin:

Glad there not in this area. To cold for them I think. I know what you mean about them blending. While in South Carolina geocaching, they would blend in also. Almost stepped on a couple of them....not sure what kind, but it was hard to see them until they moved...
What do they do with them, just kill them to control them or do they actually do something with them.

There was a guy who came up from Texas who used to ask people if they wanted to see some rattle snake fangs. He would hand them and envelope and let them open it. It had in it a piece of wire bent in a u shape with elastic band between both ends and a button or washer in the middle. When they opened it it would unwind and make a sound that resembled a rattle snake... The envelope would go flying, color drain out of his/her face and it was time to check the shorts time.... All in what you get used to I guess.

Nice pictures of them for sure.... If you can hunt just to control them I could get into that if I lived there.....

I suspect they were killed for their skins which are used for making belts, hat bands, and even boots. Also, some people eat rattlesnakes, but not me. There are some folks that hunt rattlesnakes for the poison which they sell to the medical industry, but those snakes are kept alive, not killed. When I come in contact with one while out in the field, I leave it alone unless it is an immediate, direct threat to me...best just to leave them alone and not mess with them. Kelley (Texas) :)

I don't like killing them just to kill them. If they are a problem, do it but for fun? Ain't for me. I have seen people run over them for the heck of it, not necessarily rattlers up here and it pizzes me off. They are suppose to be good eating and I would.

I just sorta like to see them alive if they are not problem animals. Most problem animals are made that way by humans.

Hi George,

Along the Connecticut river not far from Rocky Hill, Ct. there is a place called Rattle Snake Mountain and there are supposed to be some dens there protected by the state.

I've lived for a fair part of my life in "snake" country and killed a few when necessary, but would rather leave them alone like Fred does.

They do have a place in the scheme of things and besides you never know when one may be needed to round out a chilli pot's contents!
