Rare Find

Me and my hunting buddy had a very rare find today on the beach...... it was MEL PARKER. He decided to take a little vacation time and do some hunting in the Gulf. We didnt get to talk much..... but long enough for me to covet his detecting set up and ask some questions. Thanks for taking a break and chatting Mel. Hope you have a great time with the guys you hunt with and make a few nice finds while you are in the area. I got 2 later on and my partner ended up with one. I think everyone left us the small ones.

Glad to hear of the Mel Parker finding ... with him out and about!!!

Have seen a couple of his detectors up on the auction site over the last few months and was wondering how he is doing.

Thanks for posting that.

Congrats on the rings too.
Cheers,

Mel looked good. He had a sweet modified Starvr scoop with him and that bent wooden handle he made. Sounded like he had a few hunts scheduled with some of the guys i know as well and a lot of sites he wanted to check out. Maybe he will show us some of his finds later from his trip. Wonder what he thinks about this years takes out there? Lot more sand this year to deal with and fewer targets. Mostly chasing recent drops still, but it seems the sand is working down some. Once the winds start shifting and we get the lower ruffer low tides of winter things might change.

It was nice to meet you also, lots of great hunters down here.

Thanks Mel, i enjoyed it. There are some real nice guys and gals on the beaches swinging detectors down here. Ive tried to get a little information from them all and pass on what ive learned. Sorry we dont have better conditions, these summer tides havent been much help in moving the sand. Just takes a lot of swinging this year...... good luck and hopefully one of the guys can put you on a prize or two.

Those are some very nice finds. The beaches have been sanded in for a while here on the Gulf. It would be nice to see a change. Your pictures are a motivator to get back out there. HH

There were a couple of month there people were really hitting the recent drops but like you said the sand is really pushing in with those high tides we had in the summer. Winter is much better as the tide level dips closer to negitive. when those lower tides hits the face of that outer sand bar she should start cutting some of the sand causing a nice longshore drift when the winds start out of the N. Problem is..... the water gets cold then too. If the sand dont change soon what we need is another DIET craze to get people loosing that stuff lol.
