Anyone who knows me understands I have a passion for metal detecting. So wouldn’t you know it on Sunday morning before my morning horseback ride I decided to swing a detector for a couple of hours. Right when I was getting tired of hitting and digging up junk I hit a strong signal 24 registering silver. I dug it up and found a 1891 seated liberty dime. I then took the finds and provided to the owners. Simply amazing find my oldest coin found and I gave it to the owner’s. The owner explained then a story on where the coin could have gotten there. Centered around a earthquake in the 1800’s where they had to run a water pipe to their residence. MOre then likely was dropped by his relatives back in the late 1800’s.

You made a great find and that area is very scenic… hard to tell what else may be up on those hillsides!!
That is another reason I want to go back to see what else I can find. The owner was a grand person. I originally asked if I could metal detect on their property as the Wife and I was staying at their ranch. They told me let us know what you find. Seriously when I saw it, I was like no way. Took it down to the office to show them and offered it to them. The Grandfather (owner) then told me later on possibly how it was lost. So, I did ask, and they suggested me to come back and go to some of the old homesteads. It is a good thing.

That was great of you to give them
the coin you found…. Sounds like you have some other potentially good sites to go try there…. Good luck and hope you make some other great finds!!

Neat story! Keep us posted on what else you locate! I have one seated dime and the land owners/managers showed no interest after I advised them of the find and its quite possibly the oldest coin found there.

Nice find seated don't come up enough love those old silvers!
