Early this morning just after sunrise I was on a beach with the Tiger detecting. I saw something move behind me and turned around to see a deer coming toward me. I ignored it and kept detecting. Glanced over my shoulder once in awhile and the deer kept coming closer, just standing there watching me. I moved on and the deer followed. Finally the deer was about 10 feet away just watching me. I would turn and look and the deer would just stand there. I moved forward and kept detecting, the deer followed. After about five minutes the deer just walked of into a nearby yard. An employee from the parks department was watching this and came walking down when the deer left. He told me I need to keep my pet on leash while in the park. We both had a good laugh as he watched the whole time the deer was following me. We suspect one of the near by neighbors was had feeding this deer and it thought I was gonna feed it. None the less the parks department employee was very kind with me and had no problem with me detecting in this really old and large park with a beach. The weather was cold and windy and the waves were big so I moved to an inland city park to check out a winter time sledding hill. I found a few coins and realized that I forgot my drop cloth for digging so I headed back to the car to get it. On the way back I picked up some trash that was laying on the ground and headed towards the nearest garbage can only to see the same parks department guy. He was picking up garbage and thanked me. Again I did not ask him if it was okay for me to be detecting because he seemed fine with it. We chatted and he pointed out the oldest areas of the park which I plan on returning to.
It seems kindness, politeness, and just cleaning up go a long way to keep us on the good side for places to detect.
