Rainy day silver!:garrett:

After my wife and I did our early morning "social hour" thing at the gym it had just started raining again as we were leaving. Had a good round of storms come through last night and more is in the forecast for today through tomorrow. After we got home I grabbed the tumbler and containers of clad and got started cleaning it. Checked the weather about 8:45 and dang nab if the radar didn't show a possible window of a few hours free of rain. I promptly threw my gear in the car and headed out to one of our older parks. As I had cleaned my gear and ditty bag up over the weekend, I found that I had forgot my camera and small water bottle that I put silver finds in when I got to the park.

My 2nd keeper target turned out to be the 1901 Barber quarter. It was a bit jumpy in the quarter range, but wouldn't quite hit a 90 reading. As it turned out it was on edge at about 5." Dug the small silver looking blob about midway through the hunt at about 4" it and read 81-82 and passes the polish test, but has no markings so will give it a silver testing. Towards the end of the hunt got a faint mixed tone with readings in the low 70's. Dug it and it was about 6" deep, but couldn't tell what kind of cent it was until I got home and worked on it a little. It is an I H cent with what I believe to be a 1908 date, but to be sure it will need some more work. As I was working my way back to my SUV I got a classic silver dime reading of 83-84 and from 4" popped the 50d Rosie.

With the curios, clad, Memorial cents and silvers, it turned out to be a nice rainy day outing. HH jim tn

Nice Barber Jim, just goes to show a fellow should always be aware AND ready to roll:thumbup::bouncy: Hope the "blob" does turn out to be "bling"!! Looks like a mower cut penny or dime in the mix, what do you do with those cut coins?

Wandering Yoda, if its a mower cut silver and not of some older coin variety, it goes into my silver jewelry pile that goes to the smelter. Clad and Memorials go out with the trash. If there is a good portion of the coin left, it gets rolled and cashed in. HH jim tn

Good job and nice finds.

Good silver finds.:clapping:

Yeah, under a watch all night, but missed the brunt of everything right here. Was looking good for a few hours so took advantage of it. HH jim tn

Jim nice going on the silver. I thought that you would give it shot today. A little rain ain't gonna hurt a AT Pro.

Heck yeah! Those are some nice coins man.

You have got to be some kind of metal detecting ninja, or something.
Once again...congrats on some sweet finds!

Nice finds jim tin, When you're a MD guy there's no such thing as a rainy day. I detect in the rain all the time...it's the best time, there's nobody around...be safe out there.

John, I thought of that and I think the odds are good that it just might be. No rough edges on it like it broke off of something. Asiandigger, you nailed it. I love those rainy days for the same reason you do. Just for the record, this mornings hunt yielded no silver. Got 2 wheat cents and a corroded cent that is yet to be determined from what era. Thanks, HH jim tn

Glad you had a window of opportunity and found some silver. Barber coins are on my wish list. When it's raining is the best time to detect because your targets are more conductive. Long as the wind isn't blowing like it is in my area, those widow makers hanging in those trees are dangerous.

Sweet! That's a real good park.

I used to know a girl who liked walking in the rain and holding hands. I heard she married a sailor. I like detecting in the rain or just after the rain.
