Did I mention that it has been raining? It was fog and rain this morning with the temp in the low 50's. I just had to get out so I unpacked the Compadre. If I was going to have any fun at all in the rain it would be with the Compadre. Used a plastic sandwich bag for a rain cover and off I went. My wife has been having thoughts about my sanity the last few months. It is detecting time and I am not getting much time in the field. Looking outside this morning the rain and fog was just too much for me. I put my metal detecting clothes on and told the wife I was going detecting. She looked outside and than at me and gave me that "Nothing like an old fool look" and gave me the cell phone so I could call 911 when I was soaked to the skin. With her last remark being, don't call me first.
Enjoyed the hunt and glad I went out.. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Trails.....Z

Z......My Compadre with the 8' coil has been acting "weird" since we have had all kinds of rain where I live. Going to put it up for while "hate to, but have to" until things dry out. Nice finds, looks like you had a very good day.

JM58: I like using the Compadre it is fun and nothing to do but swing and dig. I have been using ID machines for a number of years but picked up the Compadre the end of last year. I am starting to get a coin signal sound pretty good now. Hope you figure out what is wrong with your Compadre and get back to using it.

Kansa54: I was surprised on the nickles I was finding today. That was close to my all time high (22) in nickles in one hunt. 75 coins is a very good hunt with my F70 so I was really surprised when I counted the coins and found out I had a real good total with the Compadre. That little thing just surprises me every time I go hunting with it. Thanks guys.........Z

Good to see you back again Z. You had a great hunt their. Take care... KEN. Ind.

Z. You had a great hunt. I find some if my best hunts are in the nastiest of weather. I got my 1st detector about 6 years ago and it was in September when most guys are hanging their detectors up for winter. I ended up going out multiple times with snow on the ground 6 or 7" deep getting a signal, kicking away the snow and digging down for my target. I asked my wife once to go out detecting during a snow storm. She gave me that same look you are describing and I went. It don't get out much so I will give the mail man a run for his money on the delivering rain, snow , and whatever they will still deliver. I will detect in any type of weather if I get the green light. My go to detector is the compadre, has been since I bought it. Nice haul on your hunt. Keep digging and having fun. Thanks for the pictures and the story. HH

Ken, had the Compadre boxed up in the locker. Was just going to use the F70 this season. This morning I just wanted to hunt and nothing else. Didn't want to try to see the numbers, the depth and listen to the tones. I just wanted to hunt. Got the Compadre out. I had a great time getting wet and beeping. I have to leave my shoes in the garage.

Gunnar thanks. I already have over 600 coins this year but with so many pennies I only have $36.04 total. 65% of my coins are pennies. I have to dig those pennies!!!

Dirtdigger33: Oh, how I try not remember those days in the cold weather with snow. I had a Detector pro Headhunter and I would go out in any weather with that thing. It was fun then but not so much now. I guess getting a little too much mileage on me to just want anything but the comfortable things in life. Thanks guys and Happy Trails....Z

Z....Compadre is still my favorite, just wish I could turn down the sens a bit.......Not going to open it up and fiddle with things or mod it, will just run one of my other detestors (meant to spell it that way) until things dry out a bit. Oh, by the way it is raining again. And supposed to rain tommorow, and the next day, etc...........I may have to build an Ark and put 2 of every kind of animal on it..........

Jazzman58: I like the Compadre but like you I find that it goes too deep in many cases for my type of hunting. As Mud calls it "Clad Stabbing." I am thinking of getting the Silver umax because the sens can be turned down. I do not want to dig those signals past 4". I want to pop those targets out with a screwdriver and get on my way to another target.
For all you guys with the Silver let me know if I am on to something here or not? I only want to dig above 4" so by setting the sens to say 5 or so would I be getting around 4"? Ahead of time thanks for the input......Z

Nice hunt there you dirty two timer!

Looks like its more of the 'Indian than the bow' in your case...sweet score on that chain...those are tough targets...:clapping:
Mud

Mud: You have it wrong. I am not a dirty two timer, I am a dirty, cranky, cantankerous old timer. That chain beeped so I dug it. It did kind of looked like gold but when I got home it was painted kind of like gold? Good to hear from you.

Slingshot: Oh sure, use the brand name plastic bags for rain covers. I can only afford 100 sandwich bag box with a dollar store rubber band around the bottom for a rain cover. :clapping: I have been using the same type of cover with the dollar store rubber band on my F70 housing for over 5 years. Thanks for reply..... Z
