Railroad Relic Finds

I was invited to hunt a railroad spur that serviced a mining town back in the early 1900s. I took the Relic with the small coil. My buddy used his CTX-3030. We hunted for about 3 hours. Very trashy with both iron and copper everywhere. Strange to think of copper as trash! The railroad hauled smelted, unrefined copper from the mine and, apparently, spilled lots of it at this spur while switching or adding cars. My buddy has found lots of old coins and other great relics here in the past. Today's hunt produced my first bag seals. Here's some pics....

All of the non-ferrous finds. The amorphous blobs are copper "nuggets" before cleaning, various bullets/cases, and "mystery metal'.

Lead Bag Seals. The name of the railroad is stamped on the back of each. May sound funny but I've always wanted to find one of these.

Copper as it came from the ground.

Copper nuggets cleaned up. Some of the pieces of copper are pretty cool so I kept some. The small piece at the top looks like silver.

Difficult place to hunt with the iron and copper "trash" EVERYWHERE but the Relic handled it really well. I hunted in DI2, Sens 55, Tone break 50, ID Mask 3, iMask 0.
I have been killing it with the Relic this past month. I've got another hunt planned for Monday then I will do a May round up. HH

Nice recoveries.. A guy I know who detects and is also a model train layout guy uses those type finds in his display. He shows history of railroad usage incorporated in his display.

Thanks, Elton!
I was stoked to find one ( that was a little railroad pun)! If your friend wants some RR history from AZ., I would be happy to send him a couple. HH.
