Racer snags first Standing Liberty at 8"

Tough to tell exact depth, but it was at the bottom of the hole and below plug pull. Best guess is 7-8". Stock coil (which I think is awesome). Trashy old yard. 3 tone, 70 gain, 10 disc. Rang in solid 87 one way. Less solid 86, 87 other way, but was screaming dig me all the way. Really love this machine. Like to run it fairly amped up even in trash. It still sings to you through the noise and iron grunts. It grabs your ear when a good target is underneath.

Sweet find.

Thanks - those raised dates on these often don't survive though. Good shape but no date. I believe that makes it pre 1925 since the dates were recessed after that point so they would not wear off like this one! Hate it when I can't get a date on a good coin find.

I did that at the first spot I hunted, a "hunted out" spot that's produced a lot of 1800's silver and what not for me, but I haven't pulled silver out of it for a few years. I'd work hard to eek out one green teens wheatie or indian head, but when I took the Racer there for it's first hunt, I found two green wheaties and a silver war nickle with the default 3-tone settings (ID filter=10, gain=70). Then I increased the gain to 90 and rehunted the site and pulled out a merc that it didn't hear the first time. It's a small spot, so easy to go over it a few times with various settings to see how a machine does. Oh and this same spot I detected earlier that morning before the Racer's turn with my F75 LTD2, didn't get a single coin with it.

My next trip there, I'll use the small coil with the sensitivity at 98 and see if I can get some oldies next to the sidewalks, or masked targets. There has to be more there

My CTX 3030 missed it as I hit the same are multiple times with it. But I will admit I did not have the CTX mastered. I believe it is much more difficult to master than the Racer. Someone else more proficient with the CTX 3030 probably would have got it. But this is one of the things that makes the racer fun. Just a few settings to tweak and you are getting the most out of it. Can't wait to try it jacked up to 90 like you suggested.
