Racer finds in a pounded relic site

Last Thursday got out for an hour or so late in the day for some real world racer testing. This place has been pounded for 40 years and doesn't give up much. It is loaded with civil war iron signals, 22 shells, etc.
I was very pleased to get a knapsack hook, an eagle cuff button, and one bullet. May not sound like much but I took the ForesCore in here and just got scraps of lead.
What impressed me is all targets were in the wide open.
I settled on 3 tones and was able to crank it up and it was nice to hunt with.
Now I need a small coil but summer is coming and relic hunting is winding down

I'll post a photo later

I TOOK MY RACER TOO HUNTED OUT SITE , AND FOUND THREE COLT PISTOL BULLETS, ONE WAS ABOUT 8" DEEP. AN EAGLE BUTTON & FLAT BUTTON ,IN WIDE OPEN FIELD , THAT BEEN HUNTED FOR YRS. AN I USED THE SMALL COIL IN A SITE WITH LOT IRON , AN COME UP WITH 2 GOOD BULLET.S & BUTTON.

Great digs, for years I have been too focused on large coils and deep searching when the best stuff is being masked by iron probably 6" or less

You just said a mouth full, plus the machines are deep in clearer ground.

EVERYONE needs the small coil, if they have a Makro Racer or Nokta FORS!

Ample depth of detection for most areas, and excellent, and I mean excellent performance in dense trash, especially iron. In low target sites I like to use the 2-Tone mode, leaving the ID Filter at '10' and adjust the Gain as I feel fit for the site. If it gets trashy, especially a lot of iron nails,. I use no higher than an ID Filter of '23' to reject the nails, and hunt in the 3-Tone mode most often. These detectors and small coils are great at unmasking the stuff we're looking for.

Sorry to hear your relic hunting season is going to be winding down when the favorable weather is arriving. Maybe it's time to take a cross-country vacation and join a bunch of fellow detectorists on an outing in a couple of weeks. Two weeks and two days and well be hunting at least four ghost towns in Nevada. We have people coming from Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, California, Nevada and possibly Idaho. It would be great to have a traveler from afar come join the fun as well.

Some will, be there for the weekend and some stay for the whole week, if they want, and maybe even into the holiday weekend. It will be a great time to give any detector and coil a workout, and I know my FORS and Racers will be putting in extra duty with their small 'OOR' coil mounted.

You do need that smaller coil, to be sure, as it is much more comfortable to use, and the results will be impressive.

Changed back over to the small one and most likely will stay on. Just an enjoyable unit in the thick stuff.

Jtalley, where are those gorgeous pictures of your finds? :) also, you are going to make me want to get a RACER in addition to my CoRe unit. ESPECIALLY for the old brass! Hopefully I'll find some brass today to share later. I did find a nice finial with my CoRe last week with the stock coil. And the depth impressed me, being right at 9 inches
