Racer does the job

Went on Montes NV trip and detected a few old ghost towns. They were old RR ghost towns and full of iron, rusted tin and cans. Used the Racer and "OOR" coil 95% of the time and the 5.5 x 10 a bit.
Finally managed to snag a 1857 half dime, Chinese cash coin and a 29 wheat penny. Used 3 tone 70-85 gain and ID Filter 10-18. Was a great trip, met some new people as well as familiar faces from the trip in May. Everyone had a great time.
And hats off to First Texas, an ol'boy joined us this trip and leaned his F19 on the back of his rig. Forgot it was there and backed over the housing, pretty much killing the machine. Monte contacted FT and they are going to take care of him. :beers:
All in all was a fun trip and hope we can get one together this coming Spring.

Thanks for taking me along on the trip. Nice pics and great finds. Still looking for my first half dime.

Nice finds in an area that has to be like a war zone of iron and trash

Earthly, I'm pretty sure there will another outing this coming spring. Come join the fun and a chance to find some neat stuff.

And yes the amount of iron and trash in these old RR Ghost towns..........makes my iron infested sites here in Oregon look like Disneyland

That is very kind of you. I basically lived in CT my whole life :puke: Farthest I ever made it across the U.S. was Louisiana. That would be a dream hunt / trip for me. Literally looks like a trainload of fun!

Gregg,
We had a great time also and really enjoyed meeting everyone. My only coin was a 1891 Indian Head (Racer & 5" OOR also). Found lots of other non-ferrous targets and cool ghost town goodies. Hope we can hunt together again sometime.

Tom, was good meeting you as well. Hope that you will be able to make the next outing in Spring. Don't know where that will be at yet, but i'm sure it will just as fun as the last couple of trips.

Sounds and looks as though you all had a great time out that way. WTG

First, Congratulations to Oregon Gregg for his overall success on making nice finds, to include his 1st Half-Dime and now also his Oldest US Coin. :clapping:

Second, when I mentioned an 'increase' in competition I don't mean the fact we had 20+ participants this timed compared with 17 in May, I am referring to more competitive detectors and coils being used ... specifically the Makro Racer. In May there were three or four hunters who had a Racer. On last week's 'Welcome-to-Hunt Outing,' that number has increased to at least 9 of 20 who used the Racer, and most of us only worked the small 'OOR' coil the whole time. Only a couple of people used the 5½X10 DD, and nobody used the standard 7X11 DD.

The number of Tesoro's used was up, the number of Fisher/Teknetics models was up, the number of Minelabs was up to 1, the number of Deus was unchanged from May at 2, and the count of White's detectors was significantly down. The Makro Racer was the clear winner when you considered the brand increase from May.

Third, I noticed a lot of people comparing their detectors against the Racer and leaving the experience rather impressed with the Racer package (appearance and performance) and commenting that they ought to look into getting one ... with the 'OOR' coil.

Great finds Gregg!

I remember when you dug that seated half dime, that's a nice one!

I'm still getting caught up at work and home on various tasks, but I hope to get a finds report posted here and on Monte's site soon.

BTW raking at Toano produced zero results, so you can rest assured that no gold coins came out of there - lol

That was a great trip, really enjoyed meeting everyone, and making a few nice finds too.

hh,
Brian
