Racer 2 Scores a 1917 Dime

Got it in 3 Tone mode not that deep at all, maybe 6". Its worn and hit down at "79". Site has been hit so hard though by me and many others--with some very modern machines. Really all about coil control (acquiring targets) and taking a second to verify your signals with this machine. This is an old site that's produced Victorian stuff too--have a sense that with the Racer 2 it's wide open---just have to keep learning and not be intimidated my the masses of (truck grove--no less!) iron. Got a Victorian half and an 1870 dime near where this one came out--I know there's more. One thing that Ty Brook taught me is that when you know it's there--the ball's in your court--keep trying.

yep good advice don't give up on a spot just cause it gets hard usually it keeps some of its best goodies for those who go the extra yard. I understand detecting like tennis most of its played between the ears.

nice saves.

R2 looks the bizz in the iron.

thats a good hit . I myself am learning the cut nails sometimes they sound good but when i turn it changes or will just not repeat.

Thinking of an appendix or something to update the R1 title.
Hard to say right now.

Here's a nunce that works 99% of the time on nails with the R2. If you're hunting a place loaded with them, they are the only thing besides tin that will give a glimpsing ID or a steady one in the mid to upper 90's. Even a fleeting glimpse. If you are over a good target with trash all around it you will almost certainly get a good tiny piece of a good tone amongst all the other blending and popping and such. A real iffie target you will hear that good tone no matter how short it is but if you are not blipping or IDing several times into the 90's when studying the target it is more than likely good metal. It doesn't matter if it's a thousand dollar coin or a penny, it was there and nothing else will find it. That's what's key about these machines that I love! Video coming soon..........

the cross sweep is your best weapon with this detector but at the same time don't discount the possibility of one way hits or partials.

what Ty actually said was "when I have an area that I know has good targets I don't give up until I figure out a way to recover them"
words to live by.

3T lets me use Tone Break. With the Racer 1 I had to keep a close eye on the lower reaches of my coin signals. Those ones that flickered down into the 70's were usually copper. In wet conditions there were more of these that hit way up. Tone break is handy in that I can choose to go after the ones that are cleanly above say "80". The more extension and repeatable a target is the better. My dime though was worn thin and showed lower--something to be aware of--there are always exceptions. I like 2T as a beach mode though.

Nice find Clive. Ya I like 3T as well when hunting trashy sites. Like Clive said you can adjust the tone break. I like to adjust my tone break to 65 on the R2, this will allow old pennies ( IH, Wheats etc) to fall into the high tone.
