Racer 2 gets me my first capped bust

Southwind

Well-known member
Headed back to my truck when I get a nice clean 42 in an area we've hunted for 30+ years. I was totally surprised when this popped up. Type 2? LOL

Wow! Great find. I thought you sold your racer and went back to the at pro? How deep was the coin and was there junk in the hole? Thanks for the post. Great find!!

Really nice find Southwind. Never have found a Capped Bust anything. Congrats.

the Racer makes a difference

I thought you sold your racer and went back to the at pro?

I did. The Red Racer was just a bit noisy for me and I was much more familiar with the AT Pro. Now I have the Racer 2 and have no intentions of going back to the AT Pro. The Racer 2 not only is just as good in the tot lots but kills the relics as well. Still have my E-Trac for those super deep ones.

Awesome find...great job cleaning it too.. ive found 2 capped dimes over my career. .. sure would love find another but they are tough to come by...congrats...

It's always exciting to make a 'fist' find of any type. I made my first ... and only ... Capped Bust coin find on February 15th, 1991 at my all-time favorite ghost town. About 6½" deep and it was also a 'half-dime' (5¢) from 1836. Best of success as you continue working your older sites.

I know that one old ghost town also surrendered to me my 'first' Flying Eagle 1¢, my 'first' and several 2¢ pieces, my 'first' nickel-type 3¢ coin, my 'first' and second Seated Liberty Half (on the same day, same time as they were nearby targets), and a few other 'firsts' of combinations. But after four binders and hundreds of coins from just that one old RR ghost town site, I just can't find another Capped Bust coin. :( Going to make a trip and give it another try next week, but pickin's sure have been thin the past decade.

Enjoy your 'first' memories forever,

Monte

Gotta say Terry, you were one of the harder nuts to crack. Congratulations on the fabulous find, and welcome to the Racer team!
