Racer 2 first day out

Well I took it out today for the first real hunt. The house I was detecting at was very close to the interstate. I tried low iron audio with no disc the first time. I found it a bit noisey. So I cranked up the disc a bit. It is a very good unit. I think the 2 tone program seems to hold TID better than 3 tone does. I managed to find some clad and such but no real keepers to brag much about. It does separate well and I am over all pleased with the performance of it. To me it seems it would be a very good relic detector. It hits pretty hard on lower conductor targets.

I detected with it for about an hour and went back to my anfibio. I do not know what they did to the anfibio but I noticed it seems to run smoother with higher gain settings than the racer does. At least at that site today anyways. I do not know if it has anything to do with the coil wire Nokta used is different than the racer 2 coil wire is but there was a difference. Maybe it was the fact that the 11 inch coil is larger and is seeing more ground and able to carry the signal into the ground more, I do not know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Overall I am very happy with both machines. I bought the racer 2 for the ability to use my own headphones plugged in with a 1/4" jack and the fact I can change my batteries. The simplicity of the racer 2 menu as it has less selections to choose from makes it a lot easier to save settings and such compared to the anfibio.

today I did not use headphones although I had them with me. I stayed in the front part of the house for the most part which helped to tone down the traffic noise at the location. Plus I was there with a friend and we were yapping back and forth as we were detecting.

Anyways these are just my thoughts. Next time I go out I am only going to take the Racer 2. I feel I will get to know it better that way than using one for a while then changing to the other because I will tend to use the anfibio more since I have more time with it.

I want to be confident with both.

Disc set at 03 knocks out some ground noise. I notch out 97-99, it helps to run a little quieter. I just set the disc accordingly, in the woods/fields I set disc at 00, areas with dry ground conditions as well. I will use 03 in spring in wetter ground, farm sites with a lot of iron bits/power lines nearby. I think every day I'm adjusting the gain to a different setting in the spring time, don't be afraid to lower the gain to quieten the machine, it will still run deep enough to find most every thing available to find.I hope this helps. Also adjust your high tone setting to the highest frequency available,70 is the highest setting on the racer 2, it'll help to want to investigate partially masked targets but often it is just non ferrous junk amongst iron, it makes me happy to know it separated the two anyways.
