Racer 2, Disappointing or defective?

Hello, a couple of weeks ago I bought a Makro Racer 2, I had a hard time deciding to read many forums and watching hundreds of videos.

Some options were Garrett Pro, Teknetics T2, Fisher F75. But finally I decided on the Makro, good depth, very good unmasking of the iron and current model of 2016.

But after several huntings with him I am very upset, I have tried a lot of configurations. The maximum depth for a normal sized coin is 4 "or 5". The mineralization of my groung is low, one or two bars. The ground balance is between 55 and 60. I use 2 tone mode to try to go deep between 70 and 80 gain, id mask 03 - 05.

In larger irons it can reach 10 or 12 inches, and the air test also looks like a normal depth with coins between 10 and 15 inches. I do not know if this is normal or I have a defective unit, because my Eurotek Pro with the 8 "concentric coil is deeper than the Racer 2 with the 7x11 DD.

Greetings and thanks for the help.

Something's not right.
I get way better in field depth than that with my little 4.5" coil.

Disconnect then reconnect the coil to ensure proper connectivity.
Remove coil cover and make sure coil is clean.
Turn on machine and perform a factory reset to wipe out any settings you may have changed.
Then see how it performs.

Definitely not right. Depth is excellent on this machine. I'm like Dave above, depth with my small 4.5" coil is better than that.

I would say 2 tone would not be the way to go. It's deep but you'll have trouble hearing per the VCO signal tapers off really quick. You want deep, try 3 tone wide open, really really deep, put it in deep mode and turn it up. It's really deep and sounds good. You're 55-60 on the ground balance tells you you have minerals or something, that will effect it for sure.

Bury a few coins in clean ground and try and see what you get depth wise.
Try. 2 tone,,and. 3 tone.
Vary your gain in 2 tone 70 all the way up to 95.
3tone,,run it at max 99,, and check.

It could very well be your soil.Where some people get 8 inches others will get 5...And the euro tek being around 7 kHz vs the racer 2 at 14,,and a dd coil vs a concentric if that's what's on your eurotek pro,,all of that could and can make a difference in depth and performance...I usto be a non believer in those sort of things, and had some real Eye openers.
With all that being said, the racer 2 and the eurotek pro are both good machines. If the racer isn't cutting it for you,Id say move on to another machine maybe. No harm,no foul..I've had to do that myself...Good luck

The main problem I'm having is it won't high beep (ground balance) in beach mode or any mode for that matter
Even if I lower the sensitivity and this is on all soils but mainly dry and wet beach sand , I've even done a full
Reset of machine ?? Hmmm I'm totally confused my ground balance reading in top right hand corner of display
Doesn't move of 90 ?? Is there something wrong with my coil ? Or system box ?? Anyone have any ideas ?
Cheers...

Finally, I opened the coil cover to clean it and the Racer 2 seems to gain a bit in depth.

Now I think it works as it should,
but I think it is a detector nothing impressive in depth,
hardly detects a coin beyond 8".

It is a good detector but I am a bit disappointed by the depth,
at superficial targets is very precise, but when the targets are in 6 "or more,
the signal is confusing and many coins are lost.

I hate asking this but are you pushing the trigger forward when ground balancing. Also, the headset I am using let's me hear targets very well at low volume. But, sometimes I have to unplug the headset and move one of the ear muffs back and listen closely in order to hear the ground balance beep. Local traffic noise has also contributed to not hearing the ground balance. Also our allergy season is in full mode making those that have seasonal allergy problems a little harder to hear things. Just some thoughts.

Does page 18 of the user manual address the issue you are having ?

Are you hearing anything when you bounce the coil? Remember the machine switches to all metal to ground balance and if there is anything there it will make a sound when bobbing the coil up and down. Most places I hunt I cannot ground balance per the amount of metal in the ground. But when I do find a clear spot it will. 90 works very very well for me in those conditions. 98 percent of the time I can't balance per conditions though.
