Wade, I buy and trade detectors as a hobby. I have owned every and I mean every mid to high end detector made. I don't sell them to make money and when I get a detector, I will use it for a solid month before it leaves my hands. Last Dec I bought the only detector left that I had not tried, a DFX. I have only used it five times and 4 out of the 5 times I have made an outstsnding find. This is without a doubt the most complicated, tricky detector that I have ever used. Well, I don't have loads of money and I decided to give the DFX a run as my main detector this season, just as the 3d was my main detector last year. I just could not afford having an expensive detector sitting for 8 months. I reluctantly parted with the 3d. I rated the 3d last year in that forum(Metal Detector Reviews) and I still stand by my opinion, the 3d is the best detector I ever used for old, deep coins. By mid-summer, if this DFX doesn't work out, I will own another 3d. I see alot of 3d's on the classified forums and in my opinion a 3d for 500 bucks or less is the BEST bargain out there. I have enjoyed and had success with every brand made, but Fisher builds a quality, easy to use detector and they are still number 1 in my book. I wish I had enough money to keep a closet full of detectors. If I had every detector made and was going on vacation and could take only one, it would be the 3d. Enough said. R.L.

Part of the hobby and can relate as I have tried a bunch myself( sometimes twice)...classifieds gives us the chance to try many and even if one breaks even, we are ahead of game as its costly to rent detectors to try them out. I do find hunting beat areas one brand will find goodies that other have missed and indeed using different units makes one a superior detectorist...

Well put Dan. I remember when I started reading these forums and I distinctly remember you saying when all is said and done, Fisher is your detector of choice. Exactly how I feel. R.L.

You will regret getting rid of the cz-3d for a DFX!I had a DFX for a year and I dug more coins in 6 months with a cz-3d.And as for depth the dfx is not even close! The dfx just like the xlt is all bells and whistles.

R.L, that's a good reason, I had read your comments on the 3D before, and the way you put it on the classified, saying you didn'think you would ever be putting that detector on the market made me wonder, but I like you have in the past, have tried nearly every machine on the market. I used the original cz6 the longest of any detector I ever had, I bought when they first came out in the early nineties, then when the 3D came out, was the first time I really thought about letting it go, but I did, The 3D is a tough act to follow. But I understand when you get the itch, you gotta scratch. Thanks for replying---Wade

I really liked the DFX it was great for coins and jewlery that were only a few inches deep. Never went as deep as the 3D not even close but I loved those VDI numbers. I would say with the 9.5 coil and good ground that detector was killer.
I think Fisher should come out with a 5 by 10 coil maybe a double D. I do love the Fisher but it was designed for one kind of hunting but does a great job on newer coins.
I am going to wait and see what White's comes out with to replace the DFX. Knowing White's I think it will become the next generation of detectors and everyone will try and catch up to them.
I am getting a CZ70 as my back up and then see what white's does. I tried the Troy X5 and hated it no match to Fisher or White's

i am with you i will buy a detector just to try it let me know what you think ?

Harold, I have owned them all including what many people consider the industry leader, the Explorer. I used the Explorer for probably 500 hr and had great success with it. It took at least 50 hr to get real good with it. The 3d was finding deep coins in the same parks and yards that I hunted the previous season with the Explorer. In fact, I found over 100 silver coins rehunting these spots. When I think back to what detectors I would buy again, Fishers always come to mind. I would buy the 3d and Coinstrike again. Don't for a minute think that I gave up on the 3d, it was strictly economics. I don't have the money to keep them all. I think when I grow up, I'll keep one detector and not read the forums. It's a blast to try them all. I have friends who have owned just one or two detectors and their finds are incredible. HH R.L.

I now own a CZ7A and an Explorer XS..CZ a user friendly depth demon can't be beat..Coil for coil a CZ will go deeper than an Explorer although an Explorer gives you much more info and yep a long learning period for most along with extra weight and poor ergonomics..Sometimes I admire those that stick with one detector, however look at all the fun we have had trying a bunch and along the line just making us better detectorists.Lets hope the snow melts quickly so we can grab the one of our choice and hit the fields..
