anyone have any experience with the quantum xt?it's a really nice looking detector with some great features i was just wondering why whites decided to drop this model.

I never liked the Quantum's.

I got to play with the prototype Quantum XT and Quantum II and could see some things of interest, but when I tried to use them in the sites I hunted I immediately realized they had a couple of things going against them .. FOR ME .. and that was the end of that.

I didn't care for the very limited discrimination adjustment (only a few accept/Reject segments). I also didn't like the need for a more 'controlled' sweep speed.

I used both of them up against my Classic III SL and they didn't get the overall performance. Also put them up against a couple of other brands I used at the time. When the Classic ID and then IDX and then the 6000 Pro XL all came out I would try the Quantum XT and later named QXT Pro but in every case, I really disliked the Quantums/

I must not have been the only one because I would venture to guess that the Quantum has been the worst White's model for any dealer to sell (or try to sell) that they have made in recent times.

So, I am not any help on that critter.

Don't know a whole lot about it , but my buddy, a newbie, got one for Christmas and I, very experienced in what little options you do have, have learned so far. Its best depth seems to be achieved by using All metal(discrimination "off") or the Mixed Mode which offers at least some kind of Audio discrimination (Dual Tone). Here's the setup I got my buddy going on, and its diggin Civil War relic depths.

Relic Mode - Make these changes
Discrimination "on"
Mixed Mode "on"
Vco "on"
SAT "8"

In good ground try to increase the sensitivity say from 16 to 18, as long as the detector runs stable

Thats all I got , Good Luck,
Dave
