went to the honey hole today on a mission not to pull a boat load of pennies and i have to say i am pleased with the results. i used disc edit the zinc screwcap program on my QXT and it worked . I went out today for about five hours and it was awsome i ended up landing my first walking liberty half a 1938 in great shape 4.5 inches down a 1941 quarter and a standing liberty quarter. i was also happy to pull a 1909 indian penny and 5 wheaties oldest was a 1929 and actually in good shape it was stuck in the middle of all of them. totals were good 43 pennies pre 82 28 dimes 20 nickles one a 43 wartime and 23 quarters all pre 86. i thought i would share this because it is amazing how one simple adjustment to a machine can work wonders i also have to say using the program that i found on this site helped. oh forgot to add i found a gold womens ring.

That's an incredible hunt total Pro, great job. I'll try that setup with my QXT when I get on a good old site. Thanks for the story and info.

Bad part about editing out zinc is that you might miss some silver rings that pop up there routinely...
I cannot argue with your results though...great hunt...Sounds like the setting is great in an area you would not expect rings in...or an area loaded with crusty zincolns...

HH,

Yep many areas are loaded with Zinc pennies and are tedious and time consuming when hunting newer areas but in older areas you will miss Indian heads, two cent pieces, various tokens.
QXT variable notch sure comes in handy don't it...and Whites gives us the options...Nice hunt my friend and many more of them...
PS: Darned if you do and darned if you don't as in newer areas large gold rings(10Kt and Sterling silver rings can be missed using this approach so always tradeoffs....

GGG and Dan-Pa make very good points All I would add as is, if you have the time, possibly use the notch strategy you mentioned, then remove the notch and cover the area again to see if you spot any suspected good targets in that zone. Course I guess that's a pretty obvious option. Anyway, great job again and keep us posted. Good luck.

Congrats on a great site. Watch the heat. If I was on a site like that I'd probably work myself into a heat stroke.
