QXT Pro Maiden Voyage

Bought a mint "like new" QXT Pro off of fee-bay last week. Really like the fast recovery of this machine. Kind of reminds me of my Classic i.d. but with much more user control and depth. Has very nice audio sound too. Took it out to a local school I hunt today to give her a try. Found some clad then within the first 15 minutes I hit this target. It was hard to keep my composure and from doing the happy dance. It's 14k with 14 stones. Need to take it in to a jeweler friend of mine for an official look. Anyway, a very good start for a new detector.

ALL RIGHT way to go OHIOMIKE I'm jealous! what did it read on the screen and what zone?

Thanks Davy. It came in zone 4 nickle/ring and was running in coin-jewelry mode. I was digging all targets for the most part. Trying to get a feel for the machine. Good targets really have nice smooth sound. Weather permitting I want to head back to the same location tomorrow and hit it again.

Wow Mike, nice start ! How deep was the ring ? I'm starting to get out with mine more and it is a good machine. I use it alongside my MXT. Congrats on the ring.

Mine is mint also cosmetically...but internally its at Whites now for service...should have it back in a week or two as Whites is swamped at the present...
Glad you made out well as some horror stories from the auction buys...

Hi Scott. It was aprox 3". I've found 8 other rings at this location but they have all been cheapies. So it was nice to hit gold. Yeah this machine is a keeper. For me it's a perfect fit. I thought about a XLT but it has too much adjustability, plus it's faster sweep speed and slower recovery would not fit my style. The QXT has the slow sweep/fast recovery like the Classic series but with just enough (atleast for me) user adjustability. Also really like the target intensity bars feature. And the pinpoint is spot on. Unfortunately it's raining here today so that school playground area will have to wait.

Yeah Mike I agree it's definitely a much more capable machine than "common wisdom" seems to give it credit for. I was new to MD'ing when I picked mine up so I was pretty confused at first but after a couple of months under my belt with my MXT I've gone back to learning the Q and I'm seeing it's potential already. I picked it up to compliment the MXT and hopefully help me find the silver coins that have been alluding me for the most part. I have a potentially great private property spot lined up that will be a good spot to see what I can do with it. Good luck.

I'm Jealouse too...I get a new detector and all I find is junk and 1950s pennies

HH,

Scott, how do you like your MXT? I thought about buying one of those before I started reading about the QXT's. Still thinking about adding one since it operates at the higher frequency. My wife could use it. Been trying to get her to hunt with me for sometime now to no avail. Now after seeing the ring she's thinking well maybe. Mike

Thumbs up all the way on the MXT Mike. Super easy to learn I feel. ( easier than the QXT ) I was pretty much brand new when I started with the MXT and could feel an improvement every trip out. Super capable machine especially with the coil choices. I think it would even be a good machine for your wife to start out on.

Great find. The QXT will get deeper on silver/copper coins than the MXT but the MXT makes a good ring machine because of the VDI numbers. That is, if you are trying to avoid pull tabs and dig rings. I've found the QXT will ID most rings as bouncing between the foil and the nickle zone, back and fourth. The QXT is deeper than the XLT IMHO. It'll beat any Whites on silver/copper using the same size coil. Too bad they don't make a 12" DD for it like an SEF. Then it would probably keep up with the Minelabs in some soils.
