Quite a Big Dog!

Anyone who remembers the legendary "big dog" Hindu 26 gr. PLAT ring knows that I have been looking for a mate for it for some time. Here it is--10.8 gr. setting is PLAT, 61 flanking and 1ct+ center stone- (not very good at eyeballing princess cut stones, it could be more). 28 years--and bingo.
Hope you are all returning to port heavy laden...

Well, beyond the usual "in the water with a detector" (hehe), I'll say that this find was a product of knowing the gold "epicenter" of a site and never missing a chance to cover it thoroughly. (I found a Cartier watch thirty feet from where this came out a few years back--if that's not a good indicator...). Also where there is a lot of good competition, I look for those areas which are not the first choices but still have --you guessed it: numbers, dollars and activity. I would also point to the importance of good coil control-- slowing down, shortening your passes and getting a handle on what's right at your feet. I say this because this was a deep, entirely missable signal. I would also point to the importance of equipment handling--having what you need to respond to breakdowns, and those thngs that would affect your "comfort level" (but not really expecting one). Summary: -be prepared, and be prepared to suffer. (haha)
PS. found with an Excal---a case for learning to hear that nice clean "spongey" sound. Have gotten some feedback on my book asking why I use this dumb word-. Answer: You'll know when you hear it!

Very nice ring Clive, a lot of people out there knocking the Excalibur but we sure do find a lot of good rings with it, it just gos to show that you dont have to have a $2500+ machine to get the big ticket rings. Well done indeed sir!

Oh, you found my ring! How many times have you heard that?

A real beauty! Love to hear what it appraises for. My guess from that one photo 10 grand plus.
