Quieting the 75 ltd

Ok Im going to check with Fisher, but wonder if you all could give me your input also. Recently my unit is excessively noisy, anywhere. The problem is a grunting, kind of iron like noise, that happens with every swing and also almost constantly on its own. I tried freq shift , lowering the sense, tightening the cable, different coil, fresh batteries etc. I did not do a factory reset, would that help? It didnt used to do this, I mean yes it was a little chatty right out of the box as we always discuss, but this was driving me crazy today, couldnt even hunt properly, and my buddy behind me was getting nice coins on turf I just hit. I had my F70 in the trunk and fired it up, wow what a relief.-much more stable and quiet and I could hunt. Later today 75ltd at a different site, same noisiness, but I figured out if I turn the disc on 0, the sound went away. If i raised the disc even past 3 or 4 all that noise was starting. So i kept it on 0 disc and notched out zinks, tabs, and foil. By the way when I notched out foil, iron notched along with it. I couldnt notch iron on my own. Earlier I even disconnected the coil and the unit was still very noisy, without a coil. so several questions, 1) Do or should or can machines make noise with no coil plugged in, 2) Is it ok to proceed the way i have it notched above?. Is that the same as using the discrimination? Or will I be loosing depth and other things. I mean it almost seems as if the disc was not working at all except to give me a headache. I know about the change at 9 or 10 in the disc or near there, and the discussions about that, I know about the foil, and gold rings etc So 3) has any one else had this problem or phenomenon? Is something up with the machine. Finally after all the rain lately getting some great weather , thanks for your input CO

since you changed coils and moved to different site and F75 did the same thing.. Try a factory reset........It can't hurt....

my f75se does that in je mode if the disc is below 15 but not in any other mode and only when im swinging the coil, i have not used the notch feature i just raise the disc up to whatever i want to not hear.it really sounds like its got a problem i would call fisher and see what they say, at least you have a good back up machine hh

Hmmm..is that weird? even with no coil connected it made noise? I'd a thought without a coil, nothing would happen? no signal in, = no signal out right?
Yeah like EZ said, at least you had a backup!

I would suggest checking with Fisher, too. Doesn't sound right. If I run into a spot with emi, usually raising the disc above 5 helps quiet it down. Your LTD may need a tune up. HH jim tn

I'd start with factory reset. And I'm with Jim about contacting Fisher. My F75-LTD has times, mostly when I am first starting a hunt with it, where it won't ground balance and won't do much more than make noise unrelated to targets; heck, it couldn't find targets. A factory reset straightens it out and then I can set it up like I want. I've had a couple times recently where it took more than one try at the reset to get mine to actually reset. So, I guess I need to talk to Fisher too.
Cheers,
tvr

I would do the reset. For a long time I hunted with my f75 noisy as heck and I started to dislike the machine. Turned out I had iron notched so when I used disc it would be notched in and sound off instead of being silent. The f75 saves your last settings so I never realized it. Must of hit the notch on accident since I never use it. Factory reset fixed everything. Only takes 5 seconds to put settings how you want so you have no reason not to try it.

Alright Digsgti and all you other fine folks, i feel like a slowpoke (dufus), for having not thought or that- I did try a factory reset today, and it seems to have fixed a lot of the excess noise issues. I will give it a day a field tomorrow and report back. Thanks for the advice all. More sunshine on the way. CO
