Quiet surface signals?

DigDugNY

Member
I know this sounds weird, but when I was out detecting today I noticed 2 or 3 different times I would get some signals that were pretty quiet but seemed repeatable and the depth meter said they were right on the surface...i didnt bother to dig because I know a coin wouldnt of done that, but was confused why it was happening. Anyone know what it could have been?

Yes, I get them now and then too.

What numbers was it showing? Do you have a pin pointer to sweep the surface to look for pull tabs or other junk?

The Fe number was usually 11, but i cant really remember the CO number..i think it was between 20-30...and i do have the propointer, but i was in a rush and assumed it wasnt a coin. I dont know if like really small pieces of trash might do that? because even though they are close to the surface, it still reads them like a deep signal?

I would say can slaw most likely...were you at a park or home site?

Old picnic area from the early 1900's

ive noticed clad dimes on the surface sound like that sometimes. i dont know why. just a few times but i have definitely noticed it.

yea, its definitely strange. If i get a chance to go back and get another one i'll have to just dig it up and see

The easiest way to find out is to dig it.
Were you running silent or with a threshold.
Also how high was your sensitivity ? EMI can repeat to some degree but usually reads higher than that if you're sens is way above what the e-trac suggests.
20 to low 30's are almost always modern trash at my sites.
