quickmask

I see you can create, edit and save different disc patterns, but Im curious if you keep your quickmask opened up for all metal, just to check targets as you are hunting? Or maybe vice versa, do you ever hunt in an all metal pattern and swap to a disc pattern to check out a target/response. Sorry, my XL Pro upbinging, thats how I use it most times.
Best,
John

Hi John, The most logical approach would be to hunt in a disc pattern and then switch to AM via QuickMask if you really want to check the target. QuickMask is just a quick and dirty way to set up a disc pattern under a different named pattern (withserious restrictions) - again Minelab software stupidity and confusing as all heck. This goes back to the Explorer days where IronMask sounded like a button you pressed to mask out iron - stupid name - stupid implementation - and no good explaination in the manual. If the programmers had been deep thinkers they would have let you quickly switch between 2 or more disc patterns and "Iron Mask" under a better name would have been simply a tool to modify a disc pattern as opposed to a switch to the "alternate" pattern with only a way to increase your disc along one axis. This is what I truly think of Minelab programmers: :puke: and I wish they would read this forum for once like the White's team does! I hope this shed some light on your question. Great hardware - cr@p software.

........I can't see how that's shed any light on anything??

Surely if you hunt in a pattern so it masks out certain items, it's going to be incredibly difficult to know when to switch over to All Metal??

Bowie, you had the right idea if you can handle the noise. Search in your decided pattern and then flick over to the quickmask you have decided on.

At the moment, I like to hunt with an open screen in 4 tones but in Ferrous sounds. I then ignore the low tone and dig the top three.
As the low tone breakpoint is Fer30, that should ignore most ferrous junk. Even that can miss some deep targets but it's a trade off as I like it.
It's just a matter of getting used to the low tone but when a good target is found, they seem to just blast through. It'll also increase recovery time.

Ran my Trac for the 1st time last night..I used quick mask 22,loaded .Then i set the quickmask screen to all metal.Used the loaded 22 to hunt then when i got any larger nullings i jumped to all metal to double check the Null. The E-trac didnt Lie one time,or miss anything tiny next to that Null.everyone said i wouldnt need all metal on this machine ,other than double checking now and then.I think they were right.Very smooth ,and locks on solid compared to my SE.Im a long time All metal ferrous sound hunter.I really dont think im gonna need to hunt like that with this machine. Its a nice improvment over the Explorers.

Dang I think I would just go buy a vision and wait for the next upgrade to make it work correctly:crylol:Sounds like you ought to be into MD designing. 212 buttons to push on a control box that is 24X24 inches in size. I'd suggest a couple of buttons to add myself, break time button, smoke a cigarrette button, take a whiz button. I really think the reason the Whites team reads the minelab forums and threads is to figure out how to dig a bigger hole in the ground so when they make a metal detector that will go that deep they'll know how it's supposed to be done. After all, Whites "have" to be easy..............:poke:

I too think the Whites team is reading Minelab forums because they've tried to make a Whites "Minelab" using old Minelab technology. I first started detecting, oh, I guess it was back in 1985. I've had a few machines since then. This E-trac I now own outperforms them all. So I sure can't complain about Minelab. They've done an amazing job.

Now you're thinkin' Jack! That's one I could sure use! Actually I have a V3 on order :yikes: Ain't gonna give up my ET & SE, but I wanna play around with the new DSP stuff. Actually the White's interface is pretty clean - less buttons than the ET, but I like some elements of the ET's button layout and some of the V3's. I'd like to come up with a kick @ss unified design and try to convince one of the giants to run with it......otherwise me and Bryce are gonna have to launch that BryEr line some time in the near future! :bouncy: The only problem with that is he insists that Yeti should be the head of sales! :buds:

Thought so from your handle - Gibsons I take it  My friend Stanley Jordan sat in for Les Paul at the Iridium last Monday and I think this coming Monday. I play a little too. Does your musician's ear help with detecting?

Wow! That's cool that your friend sat in for Les Paul. I don't know if I have much of a musician's ear or if it helps my detecting...but I suppose it doesn't hurt. I sure would love it if my ears helped my detector find me a Les Paul Standard with a 60's neck though...with a honey burst finish :super:
