Quicker way to switch coils???

Just a thought as I switch coils on my 1500 -- could there be a better way to attach coils to the white plastic shaft of the detector? It's a pretty tedious chore to loosen the screw nut nearest where the cord enters the coil. It would work a lot better if it weren't so close, then you'd have some wiggle room. Maybe it's just me and there is a quicker way to do it using the screw knobs and threaded rod. In my opinion, it's the worst design flaw in an otherwise excellent detector! Any ideas/tips to make our lives easier?? :nerd:

Yeah, buy another lower rod and have the different coil already set up on it. By the way, my brother uses the large plastic bolt and nut from a toilet seat to attach his coil, he says it's a lot sturdier than the stock plastic bolt, cheaper and easily available from a hardware store.

All my extra coils for all my machines are on lower shaft's. I lost the little wing nut and washer once that dropped down into some rocks that were to big and I was unable to recover. Won't happen again - I hope. I also run the coil cord straight up the lower shaft with Velco strips, then start to wrap up the remaining shaft. Also use Velcro up at the upper section to relieve stress at the connector by allowing that part of the cord to remain slack.
Somehow, I have ended up with about 8 - 10 extra lower shafts, a few for one machine, a few for another etc. I don't know it happen over time, maybe more coils that I don't have might fix that problem. Got me to thinking about that one

Now why didn't I think of that? Certainly a lot easier than messing with those nuts! BTW, I also run my coil cord like you do, using velcro strips normally used for securing starter tomato plants to a stick. The velcro is green and looks great on my green machine!

Thanks to all for the replies!

Extra shaft with the other coil. The only way to go. My sniper is on an extra. Just takes a few seconds to switch them out.........

Who remembers when I quit smoking? FWIW it was back around 10/04. I recall that I enjoyed swapping coils (back then) as it was a good excuse to stop and have a smoke, Because I no longer condone smoking, I now recommend getting am extra lower shaft. Otherwise I recommend Marlborough Reds.
