Quick "Un" Mask

I have now been using the Etrac for about 6 months, and am starting to feel much more proficient each time I go out. Since I traded in my top of the line BrandX machine, it has pulled two silvers and a V nickle from the same ground I had been hunting for over a year with nothing but clad and junk. I recently began testing more of the features/settings of the Etrac and discovered something that I had missed earlier when trying out the QuckMask...

The other day I was out and noticed that when I was getting into areas where the trash was heavy and there was an intermittant good sound mixed with other sounds that switching to a mostly open Quickmask allowed the detector to to detect and sound off on each target individually where the normal disc pattern I run (Andy's C&J program) would not isolate each target in the same way.

It was almost as if I was running pinpoint mode, but was gaining the ID numbers and distinct sounds of the targets. What a revelation to me, as I had been changing to pinpoint mode to isolate targets, but only having the target box to look at in that mode made it more time consuming as once I would isolate each target, then I would investigate each target individually in the Coin mode to see if it was the one that was giving me the high signal.

With the quickmask, it seems as if the Etrac changes how it operates as it doesn't seem to hang on to each signal as long allowing the others to come through.

In my book, quickmask is a misnomer, it should be called "Quick UN Mask" as that is how it seems to me....

What an eye opener, I spent much more time using the QuickMask screen in multitone cond. and forwhatever reason the machine acted as if I had changed detectors.....

Loving the Etrac

An open Quick Mask screen just means that you are running now without any discrimination at all, which now allows the E-Trac to pick up both targets, where before, one of the multiple targets underneath the coil would have nulled and/or skewed the reading of the good target. I run an open screen all the time in areas that are really heavy trash.

Steve, that sure sounds correct, it just drives home how much masking is going on when running a disc. pattern. Thanks for the reply.

I know what you mean as far as using Quick mask in heavy trash area's. It's funny when you think about it as most machines work better in heavy trash with a lot of discrimination. But the Minelab E-trac/Explorer work the heavy trash better with no discrimination? It reminds of the Fisher CZ in that respect as I use My CZ with o discrimination at all times and listen to the tones.
