Quick Mojave hunt, I like it!

Old California

New member
Took the Mojave on a quick hunt, 30-40 minutes tops due to rain.

The site dates between 1860 to around 1940's, farm land with three homesteads built on top another. Now nothing stands here, extreamly mineralized with both soil and chemicals from farm use. Tough site to hunt, laced with iron and poor soil make it differcult to detect here especially now with all good targets recovered over the years.

The Mojave did well in the iron, do to the mineralized soil had to hunt with high ground setting. As the manual states, set disc knob at 6 oclock and bob the coil over a clear path of ground, listen to the audio. Low ground setting was hearing ground noise, flipped to high ground setting the Mojave went silent that was the correct setting for this site.

Adjusted discrimination at the first letter I of Iron, that appears to be my setting for my area as this knocks out the smaller iron yet bigger deeper iron will bleed through. Too much discrimination will surely hurt masked signals, so for me discrimination is set on the first letter of Iron (I).

That may change of course as I learn the Mojave, and with this particular site choose preset with sensitivity and that was because im still learning the Mojave. Overall, Wow I like it. Nabbed a piece of cache coin and two other conductive pieces of junk, and iron as well. Still, Pretty good ratio 50/50 half iron other half conductive.

Mojave is not exempt from iron, which most will agree digging iron is necessary to detect masked signals.

Yesterday, Tested the Mojave at a park with a test bed. Was impressed, depth is good especially with this coil. So much to learn, but looking forward to using this little rascal at parks and as a relic machine.

Thanks for looking,
Paul

That rain on the detector would scare me.
But nice write-up on the Mojave.
I'm holding off to see if I need one since I have the compadre and my ground isn't bad here.
If I found a site where the ground was bad, as you can see in my signature, I have other detectors I can use.
Patiently waiting for a head to head with the compadres in normal ground to see if there's a niche I can fit it in to make sense of buying it with the other detectors I have.
That said, for all newbies or ones without a large selection in their stash, the Mojave looks like a great machine.
If I was new I'd probably opt for it!!!

Hello Stefen,

Yrs indeed, The Mojave is a bargain for those looking for a good detector without laying down a chunk of $$$.

You have a nice selection of detectors, good for fair to tough soil. You'll probably eventually get a Mojave, it's pretty good especially for the price.

Thank you for sharing,
Paul

Thanks for the reply Paul.
Yes I agree I most likely will still get it, not out of need, but because of want lol.
Same reason I bought both models of compadre lol.
I have detectors that will handle ground the compadre can't but still bought more.
Unlike before I won't jump on it and buy now but I do see a Mojave in my future. Kudos to Tesoro for this great entry level priced machine that can be enjoy by new and seasoned detectorist alike. :)

Thanks- that's where I run the Compadre -@ the "I" in iron. Still get lots of info on targets at that setting. Glad you're enjoying.
