Have read a ton of info. over the Winter and the past days as I prepare to embark to the soil with my recently aquired ETrac (If it ever stops raining).]
BUT, see alot of discrepancy on Recovery Deep On or Off? Does it really matter?
And a Quick Mask?:
Is it better to block out everything below line 27 or leave it alone? Thoughts?
Since I run a high manual sens setting most of the time, I don't really see any difference in deep on or off. I have been running with it off with fast on. I run quick mask all the way open. But I don't use it too much as I also opened up the fe all the way from 30co on up. This way it keeps me from always hitting the quick mask. Seems to be working so far. Who knows in a week I may be doing something different? I do know if you use the ML pre loaded coin mode you are loosing deep, old coins. The fe line is no open enough.
If you leave deep on all you need to understand is that only the small targets that are a bit iffy at depth will be affected. It makes no difference on large solid signals. I used to run deep on all the time but I usually only run it now after I have hit a site and I know there are deep targets. I wait until I think I have hunted an area out and then run it moving low and slow. It slows the reaction time a bit but as I hunt in audio long it really doesn't hinder the signal response. Hope this helps.

I usually run Quick Mask the same as you (FE 27 down disc'ed out). That way I can catch those bouncy targets and still disc out most of the iron/trash. If it's a iffy signal, I'll go all metal and check it again. As for deep on/off, I usually leave it off and bump up the sens to around 25 or higher depending on ground conditions. I turn deep on when the sens is below 25.
