mike, i believe theyr'e the same thing, only the qd2 is sold directly by bh to dealers, whereas the pioneer 202 can usually be found at wal mart. that's where i got mine. it's the best 200 bucks i ever spent on a machine. paid for itself in 3 weekends. a lot of bang for the buck. hh,

well I think I might lean towards the qd2 I can get it online with some freebies and I hope its going to be good for what i am using it for. I live in mass so the back fields in the berkshires and the beaches at the cape and moving to fla next year so any input let me know

thanks
mike

The QD2 is the same as the Pioneer 202...If you can get the package deal, definitely go that route. The detector will do well on dry land and on the dry sand, but will start giving you problems on wet sand. if salt water beaches are your gig, and you intend to hunt in the wet sand and surf, I would suggest a dedicated Pulse Induction type detector. The QD2 will find dimes down to a depth of about 6 inches, and quarters I have found down to 10 inches in soft soil/sand mixture.
The Pioneer 202 was the very first detector I owned.

so will i be able to find relic stuff and coins or should i shoot for the next model up and what model should i look at my max $$$$ is 250

It will definitely find you Relics, Coins, Jewelry, and anything else metal that is worth finding...If you can flip the bill, opt for the Sharp Shooter II (Pioneer 505). It is a little more deep seeking and has a few more features than the QDII, but the QDII will do just fine also.

You can buy a Fisher F2 for that price range, but still no ground balance...(automatic)
