Quick draw 2

New member
I just ordered a Quick draw 2. How accurate is the depth meter on this machine? If you target is 1 inch or three inch, what does it read out?

If you keep your coil at a constant 1" off the ground, the depth readout is fairly accurate on coin sized objects ONLY...The machines are not designed to read depth on larger objects, or on objects that are not coins...

Thanks for that info. Another thing, one of the places I have permission to look is at a museum in town. The guy that cuts the grass, cuts it at four inches. I guess that will effect the readout too, right? As you can tell, I'm not too smart about some of this hi-tech.

The 4" grass will have to be added into your depth total, but as stated earlier, your machine does not have a depth readout (that I could see)...You just dig all repeatable signals and know that most modern clad is no deeper than 4"...Iron/Foil and Nickels should make a Low tone...Gold, Screw Caps, and Pull Tabs, should make a Medium tone, and Copper, Dimes, and all other coins and Silver will make a High Tone...Practice by dropping objects of different types in your own yard, and seeing what sounds they produce...If when digging you have gone 8" and still have no target, your most likely digging a large object that is deep...Most of the times, these are tin cans or pop cans that are at around 10" deep, or some old piece of iron...
Remember that Gold sounds off just like screw caps and pull tabs, so you HAVE to dig all these signals...You will dig a LOT of trash, but that first Gold ring will make it all worth while!!!

GoGoGopher, With the help from you and other old timers (although you're probably younger than I), I might learn something. Thanks alot.

May you find your golden streets some day.

i have a QD II... the depth reader does fairly well. i have pulled coin between 6 and 8 and thats how deep it told me it was... i did purchase a pin pointer because i had trouble with placing where to dig accurately. (prob more of a personal problem than the machines) ...always seemed to be off with the coin being on the outer edge of the 8 inch or so plug that i would cut. but as far as depth its pretty right on.

Thanks tia. All help for this old soul is welcome.

Waltship welcome to the hobby and don't worry, we all learn something everyday on this hobby. I never swung a QD11 but have seen alot of nice finds by others with it. Like all units, practice, practice, practice. When you learn how it talks, you'll almost know what it is before you kneel to dig it.:detecting:

Got the QD2 in the mail today and was playin with it in our yard. I saw my neighbor and showed it to him. Dog gone if he found nickle in his yard.I ain't even found one yet. I sure ain't gonna let him try my tracker 4. There won't be anything left for me ta find.

Still tryin to get used to the sounds my QD 2 makes. Yesterday I was in a neighbors yard and got a tone. The ID read 10cents and 25 cents. I thought, this stupid thing is screwed up. It P-Oed me, so I dug to find out what it really was. Welllllll.......it was a quarter and a dime.(clad). Who's smarter now? Not me for sure.

I Also have just purchased a quick draw 2 in the last month, and i love it works very well, found a dime in my yard 2" deep the depth was rite on, all so went to a picnic ground where they have booths, an found 8 quarters a 6 dimes an several Penny's, all clad silver tho, some were at 2 ' an some just below the surface, quick draw 2 is a very good choice, even for old timers

Mo had a LOT of old millitary history, and also, a LOT of indian artifacts...Almost anywhere you look is a good spot in MO...
