Quick Draw 2 Problem

Hello from north Georgia mountains;

Just got my QD2 yesterday but can't seem to get it working.
All I get is random tones and up and down arrow movements.
Lowest sensitivity and getting away from house makes no difference.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hello from Middle Tennessee.

Check all of you're wire connections make sure it's wrapped around the shaft correctly , and the plug is properly seated and screwed on correctly.
if that's not it. open it up and check for a loose connection inside the box.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

Karl

Thanks Karl,
I've checked the battery conections and all looks good. Not sure I should open the box up...warantee issues?

TNX, Pete M

Does anyone know why I MUST use 9v alkaline batteries in my QD 2 detector? Will rechargeable NiMh batteries harm the machine?

The Alkaline batteries put out more current then the lesser types of 9V batteries.
Rechargeables should not hurt the unit...make sure the you use high output batteries180mA - 200mA)

Welcome to the forum and the hobby!!!

TNX Drkstr62 for the battery info. I guess I'm really ignorant about metal detectors. I used to be pretty handy with utility locators and how they worked...I don't really know what a metal detector is supposed to sound like.
I'm up in the mountainous area of Georgia and not sure what the ground contains and how it affects my device.

Tnx again for the info,

PM

You're welcome...I am new to this hobby too and still learning...I do know some about electronics since I work on Computers.

Sounds like it might be a battery issue. Use good 9V alkaline batteries
and check it out again preferably outside. Chances are that it's the
batteries, battery connection or coil connection that are the problem.
Would check out the batteries first. I have gotten batteries that were
brand new and didn't have enough voltage that they should have.
Not a common thing but it has happened to me, Hope you find what
the problem is. Please tell us when you do so we can learn from your
experience too. Good hunting to you !

I decided that my new QD 2 was damaged during shipment since the box was crumpled when I got it.
Amazon's return system had a replacement detector in my hands within 24 hours...truly amazing!
Anyway, the new device seems to work perfectly. Maybe now I can find all my buried property pin sets.

Thanks to all those who replied to my original post.

Lesson learned :
If shipping container is damaged...the contents might also be.

TNX all, PM
