Quick! Beach Settings?

Hi,

Tonight I have a little-notice trip to Miami. I'm going to bring my White's MXT because I should have some time tomorrow to detect the beaches.

I've never detected a beach before. What mode and settings are recommended?

Any differences in settings for wet sand versus dry?

Should I try wading in the water? (Yes, I know the control box is not waterproof)

Coils - I have the factory round coil, a 6" DD and a 14" DD, both White's. Which should I use?

Any advice for detecting beaches?

I'm not sure of the name of the beach, but the hotel is on Collins Ave and is on the water.

Thanks in advance!

First I would recommend the DD coil (your choice on size). Set it up according to the manual. Stay in the dry stuff unless you protect the housing (which I would do anyway because of salt spray). Use your presets.

If you do hunt the wet stuff stay in the lane. Don't go in the water.
Make sure you ground balance if possible. If not able to then let the tracking take care of it. The MXT is my old workhorse when relic hunting but I've not had too much experience beach hunting with it.

Good Luck!

This must be an awfully newbie-type question, but what is the "lane"?

I guess I'll take the 14" DD for ground coverage, hopefully the trash won't be too bad.

Thanks for the quick reply, my flight leaves in 8 hours.
