Quick! Beach Settings?

Hi,

Tonight I have a little-notice trip to Miami. I'm going to bring my MXT because I should have some time tomorrow to detect the beaches.

I've never detected a beach before. What mode and settings are recommended?

Any differences in settings for wet sand versus dry?

Should I try wading in the water? (Yes, I know the control box is not waterproof)

Coils - I have the factory round coil, a 6" DD and a 14" DD, both White's. Which should I use?

Thanks in advance!

Flip over to salt, set discrimination to 0 so you don't miss a target, set the gain to a bit below default and DIG EVERYTHING. There is high value targets and you don't want to miss anything. (A year ago a club member found a gold filling!) Good hunting, Pop Top

sorry I missed your flight, but for future trips to the beach, the C&J setting is fine. I would use the relic mode because it adds a bit more info from your target through the audible. Show us what you find!

Thanks for the help, guys.

OBTW, I did find time to use the Search function on the forum and that helped, too, wasn't sure I was going to be able to do that or I wouldn't have made the urgent help request.

I got out for about 2 hours before I needed to get out of the sun.

$1.05 in clad, coupla quarters, nickels, dimes and the rest corroded zinc pennies.

Lotsa beer caps, Heineken was the most popular with Corona a close second and Miller a distant third. Dug some foil and cans to get feedback on my readings and to help clean the beach.

I was most comfortable in Coin & Jewelry, Gain at the pre set and discrimination around 2. Ground for dry sand where I spent 95% of my time due to high tide, Salt when trying the "lane".

The machine was very stable even with the high Gain setting.

I kept digging the beer caps because they would VDI and ID right in the ring range.

I used my 14" Whites DD coil, pinpointing was no real problem, didn't really need to pick out multiple targets, digging is so easy that accurate pinpointing was not real necessary.

I may get out again this evening once it cools.
