Just purchased a GB Pro and don't have the time to go out to give it a spin but did have time to test some coins and jewelry with it today. I was really curious as to the sensitivity of the Pro with small jewelry so I got out some of MY old jewelry from my previous earring time period of life to test along with an 18" medium link gold chain. All three of these are 14k, the chain weighs in at 9.5 grams, the small hoop (smaller than a dime) weighs .2 grams and the diamond stud doesn't even register on my scale so I'm saying less than .1 gram. I did the test in disc and all metal, 100% sensitivity, after ground balancing (ground phase 71), here are my results. Coil that was used was the 5 x 10.
One thing to keep in mind with my results..... I just got this detector and DO NOT totally understand it, I've got lots of learning to become proficient with it.
Small stud earring was difficult to get a reading on even when almost touching it with the coil. I did get some tone but what was read on the screen was jumping all over the place. In all metal, the results were better, I could definately tell something was there, slight change in threshold, the 3 bar reading was jumpy but most of the time it was 59-61 on the scale, I would have investigated this in the sand or ground using all metal.
Small hoop earring, again at .2 grams in disc, the reading was jumpy but normally was in the 20 - 40 range. I probably would have dug this signal. In all metal, it did read pretty strong 39 - 41 with the coil about 2" above it, I would have dug this signal.
Now the medium linked chain. I cannot pick up this chain on any of my detectors.... those detectors are a Sand Shark, CZ-21 and the Sovereign GT. I have picked up one gold chain with the GT BUT it did have a heart pendant on it. All of my other chains have been silver or stainless with larger links or something attached to it. So I was really curious to see if the GB Pro would hit on this chain and it did. Readings with the chain balled up and the coil about 4"above, in disc a solid 40 and in all metal, 39 - 40. Then I wanted to see if it would read the chain if it was laying straight on the ground and it did BUT was jumping all around. In all metal, you definately knew something was there and I would have investigated the reading.
All in all, I'm impressed with the Pro, it may not be as sensitive as the GB2 to small gold but it will definately work for me. Maybe now I will start finding those chains that I know are out.
Hope this may help someone out there that may be wanting a Gold Bug Pro.
