Hey folks I live In maryland right on the Chesapeake, its kind of a ritzy community and was curious if my bounty hunter fast tracker which ive had for awhile would be any good for shallow water hunting. I could also use some help with tooling, Im very new to this and is very interesting to me, Im also thinking about doing some river hunting at a place I camp at on the potomac. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks. Btw names dave but call me wolf :)

Can't hurt to try!!! I'm not sure if it will do OK in saltwater??? Most likely drive you crazy with it false signals but if you find something good it might pay for a higher end detector!

Ok cool deal ill give it a go, the manual says the coil is water proof, but im still a little concerned. And this is all new to me how will i be able to tell what a good signal is or isnt?

How do you intend to get the target from the water? Do you have a long handle scoop? In the water in sand you dig everything. Well I do except most iron. Bottle tops, pull tabs, can slaw, sinkers, old brass belt buckles all sound good. Need to be dug.

I drowned a White's Spectrum and a White's DFX before I got a water machine. NEVER raise your coil above the control box. Water will run into it and FRY your machine. Don't bend down to pick up a target, unless you know your machine is far enough away from the water.

IMO. If your serious about water hunting, save for a water machine or buy an inexpensive Ace 250 and waterproof it like the people do here and save yourself a lot of future grief. AND 'buy or make a long handled scoop. Can't wade and detect without one.

Being as i live on the water i fish Alot so for walking and looking i have to things i will use one is a scuba divers mesh bag with handles and i also have a grash shrimp net which has finer mesh so things like coins and rings etc cant fall through, and i am looking to eventually upgrade , this detector has been in my garage since i was a younger kid and have just recently decided to use it again now that im older. Some suggestions at some decent water proofed models would be greatly appreciated and some other tools as well. Thanks for the info and help folks i will have some pictures up in a few of some things i found today before it began to rain.

P.s I dont plan on going in much farther than my chest which is about 5 ft.

Indeed i imagine the spark and puff of smoke would not be a good thing, guess its a good thing i decided not to go in the rain tonight...

Rocknut where are you located, mid..north..south of the Bay Bridge..I'm near..millersville..maybe we can hookup sometime

Im actually from gibson Island Im not far from millersville at all, At the east end of pasadena. Im just north of the bridge i can literally see it from my community. That sounds like fun to me maybe you could teach me some stuff. And an update i just purchased a new detector tonight, I got the cobra wader series detector its reasonably priced i dont plan on diving with it so no worries there. And if its junk than im not out a whole crap load of cash either. But we will see what happens should be in by the end of the week just in time for me to try it out on sunday

hook up with joe(oldbeechnut) if at all possible!!!!!!!!!!

1.chest deep with the bountyhunter is to deep.
2. wading and trying not to get the control box wet is fine.
3. saltwater is a no-go.

Im not talking about doing that with the bounty hunter, im talking about the new one i just ordered, the cobra wader series. And if i can i will most def

Good Luck with your new machine....lotta good hunting in the Bay....let me know if you want to head out....Hopefully and Gods will..I'll be out there every few days come the summer of 2013...then no beach will be safe from this old pirate...joe

China. Very little discrimination and the coil is very flimsy. One of my good friends bought one and broke it the first day he used it. Just be gentle, you will find lots of iron, BUT find some good stuff and buy a better water machine!!! Or look at the modification site and waterproff an Ace. Good luck on your new adventure. I wish you lots of success.

Thanks bud i hope its a goodin too, maybe eventually ill afford one i can dive with and give this one to my friend because im gonna give him the tracker and see if he enjoys it :) and why wait till 2013 ill be out next weekend now that half the islands population is gone for the coming winter

Rocknut88,
You must be lucky! Just starting out and you got Oldbeachnut helping you out! (WOW) pay attention to even the littlest details. I don't think there is too many detectorist of his caliper out there! If I had the opportunity and live around the corner from him I'd be there!
