Anyone tell me how high is your sensitivity reading when you first turn on your machine? And I'm having problems with beer bottle caps. They ring in between 10 and 25 cents,if I notch them out they just seem to move u scale or down??? Any help would be appreciated.

It turns on at whatever setting was used when it was last turned off.
The notch at which the caps read will not move up or down if you
notch that particular notch. If you are getting hits in other notches,
they would have hit that notch anyway, no matter if the notch was on
or off. When you notch an ID tab, nothing in the machine actually
changes except for the audio tone you hear. Except for the silenced
tone, the machine is still working exactly the same.
IE: you can be in coin mode, and still read all the other notches as
they show on the display. You just won't hear those. You will still
see them though. You could notch every single ID tab, and still
operate totally normal if you wanted to go by sight of the display alone.

Thanks MK, But according to the manual, when the machine is turned off all set return to factory default except those in the custom mode! I simply want to compare what I get with another machine. Can you tell me why bottle caps are coming in at between 10 & 25.

I think thats only when it's new, or has been reset.
Seems to me mine holds it's settings when turned
off and back on. Mine is out in my trunk right now,
so I can't test it at the moment.
As far as the caps, they must be fairly conductive.
Rust, soil leaching, etc can make them ring hotter
than they normally would. Also, they are a pretty good
size too..
I wouldn't be surprised if the ID on those bounces
around a bit. Not real stable like a coin would be.
If a target ID jumps around a lot, it's usually junk,
or iron with rust, etc.. The iron in it will ring low,
but the highly conductive rust will ring high..
So it will jump around trying to decide what is what..
This is usually the pattern with rusty nails.
Course, some "junk" can be very desirable to find.. :)

Throw out the manual and use the machine. Over and over and over. See what you find, what you dig and what the 250 told you. It's called experience and some of us with thousands of hours on the ACE still learn!!! I just came across something that might have cost me some jewelery and I've found enough rings to be called the "Ring Man". We continue to learn. Good luck and keep digging..........

Your 250 should go back to the setting you turned it off on. Like others have stated, bottle caps will "jump around" The ace is very good to lock on to quarters and dimes. You may be running your sens. too high and getting other interference. Remember the 250 does not have ground balance. ( The one thing I would change). By the way bottle caps suck and you will dig some, we all do and have. I live where there is a very netural soil. I have to kep my 250 turned down to 2 bars below the top on sens. Good luck sir and stay at it. The 250 is one really great machine.

Now that I have brought it up, What would you change on the 250? Here's mine and I love the machine. (alll answer)

1) ground balance
2) back light
3) It needs to hold the target Icon longer

Yeah a lot of the info I have provided since field testing the 250 ain't found anywhere in the manual. You'll never find "twitching" in the manual. They never put up the animation on pinpointing until after John and me preached on it forever. One learns from using in the field not reading the manual. It's just to get you started and give you a general idea of what to do and how to do it. There ain't no teacher like cold, hard, experience and lots of practice..

I still want a trigger pinpoint mounted in the top front of the grip so all you have to do is squeeze to pinpoint. All metal, Scan Track, and ground tracking, would be nice - but then it would cost as much as a 2500. :)

At $200 it is perfect the way it is. If I start adding features and increasing the price I may as well go to a higher end unit with more features.
