Questions on others folks settings for ATPro

General Poll here for my learning experience.

1. What amount of Discrimination do you run for your hunts? Pro Mode or Standard Mode.
2. What level of sensitivity?
3. What speed do you sweep your coil?

I have been hunting at 40 discrimination, but after reading the article in Western & Eastern Treasures I'm wondering if I'm running it too high. Also I'm running full sensitivity, not wanting to miss deep silver.
Even at 40 discrimination in Custom Pro Mode the audio is all over the place with so much information tones.

All help is appreciated! GL & HH all!

1. Zero to up to 30 on the iron discrimination no discrimination above iron.

2. Wide open

3. Varies slow in trash faster in clean areas.

Wide open, Pro Mode Custom iron 32-33, I run with iron on and off. With iron on you will know if you need to slow down.

I run mine usually at 25. You need to "listen" to the audio and compare the numbers with your VDI. Numbers fluctuating in the 30-40's-50's then jumping to the 70's to 80's need to be dug. I only hunt in Pro mode. That is "THE" mode to learn. :)

Am I discriminating out some good targets running discrimination above 25? I did notice that silver dime rang up at the same VDI readings as the CAD pennies. Which is weird...

Also I switched to standard for a bit to test it compared to Pro mode and the pennies were hitting to coin ding both ways, but I was also getting intermittent coin dings in one direction on allot of targets. I ignored those, but i wonder if they were CAD quarters now, cause in air test in standard mode they only make the coin ding in one direction.

It really depends on the site for me. I always run in pro mode. If the site is really clean I might run the iron desc at 15 but if it's trashy I've run as high as 35. I'd say I average 25 to 30. Iron audio stays off unless I find a possible target then I turn it on to see if it's telling me it's not so good.

I have a wide variety of conditions but they tend to be trashy so sensitivity wide open can overwhelm my ears. Usually leave one or two bars off. If I'm in the chips of a totlot then I only leave three bars on so it doesn't go nuts on the metal tubing, even with the super sniper. As for swing speed again, if I'm in the trash I slow my swing speed down looking for the good tones, if it's fairly clean I'll speed up. In trash the DD wiggle has come in handy.

Even with 2 bars of sensitivity off I've made a hit at 11".

Another question, sorry.

Do you notch out anything above 40 on the VDI?

I use either Pro Custom with Disc at 40 with Iron Audio set to ON unless the trash is overwhelming. A little quieter mode is Pro Zero, 0 Disc and Iron Audio off. Either way sets the tone breaks at 40 and 75 between the three tones. However, if you turn the Iron Audio to ON in the Zero Mode, you move that tone break from 40 to 00 and at that point have a two tone machine. That is why I prefer the custom mode. I mainly hunt for coins and those settings work well for me. I am sure that the relic hunters have figured out how to wring the most out of the settable Iron Disc. I would like to see more written about it, Interesting subject.

Normally I don't notch out anything unless I'm vacuuming a totlot then I'll notch out pulltabs. One or two spots I hunt clad I hunt in pro coin because the trash is so heavy I give up!

Really depends on the site. Mostly tho, I run a 4-5 bars Sens. to keep the Pro or Gold stable. Yeah, I know, you CAN run them wide open, but thru past experience over the years, I've found it only gets you a more unstable machine and really, no more finds. I start out on a site at Iron Dics 20 in the Pro Zero mode but will jump it up to 30 if there's too much iron for my ears to handle. If there's not much Iron, I'll run with Iron Audio on to try and snag a coin or goodie from between 2 pieces of iron, but mostly I run with it off. Will I miss some targets...sure. Will everybody else...sure. If we found it all every time, what would be left for us to find on out next trip out. I say, go out, set your machine however is most comfortable for you, find what the detecting gods will allow you and have some fun!!

Amen to that!

Last Saturday I found a Merc dime at six inches with 5 bars of sensitivity. Could tell by the sound that it was deeper but the digital meter was locked on a solid 82. It was six inches deep but from the signal I had I think it could have been a good two or three inches deeper and I still would have heard it good enough to dig it.
Agree completely on the stability part.
