questions on digital camera

I am not a photo expert so the questions may sound dumb.
This ampiture of a F2 and a F8, I was told the lens stays open longer in the F2 so you get a more detailed picture, but you have to hold the camera more steady for close ups. If this is the case than F8 you would need more light. What would be the best of close ups of coins for good detail and clear.
I would think no flash would be better for close ups of coins, but some of my better picture are with flash. If not a flash than what would be a good light source??
Thanks for any info.
Rick

Especially on close-ups that will help. I don't need my macro lens on the Olympus 2500L but I like using it since the lens has a snap on opaque filter to kill the brightness of the flash. Does a great job on macro's... Guvner..
