I got mine tonight at about 8pm. Did a few tests, and like
you, I seem to see about 2 inches max increase. But sorta
inconclusive. I did air tests, and it did seem to maybe get
an inch or two more on a quarter. But not a drastic increase.
I also tried using the pinpointer range, as it's also a good
indicator, and ditto.. Seemed to give me appx 2 inches or so
more pinpointer distance on a few medium size targets. But
will have to do some more tests. I notice being bigger, it
chatters more.. Also..Mine seems to want to be run pretty
strong as far as the sensistivity. If I back the sensistivity
back to about halfway, it kinda seems to drop off in depth a
good bit. I took it out in the backyard just to scan the ground,
and it seemed fairly normal I guess. I did get a few "coin"
hits that read 8 inches + on the scale. The pinpointing seemed
fairly strong, and normal. I'll be able to tell more as I use
it.
I also got the sniper coil, and I think it's gonna be the real
sleeper. That thing hits almost to 6 inches. Solid at 5,
and starts to drop off a bit at 5 1/2 inches..Random hits
at 6 inches, but thats reaching the limit.. But seems to work
real good, and dimes hit about as hard as quarters from the
same depths. You don't see the reduction in dime depth vs big
coins as much like you do the bigger coils.
I didn't get both covers..
They didn't have the 12 inch
coil cover in stock, but I did get the one for the sniper..
The bummer deal is the sniper really doesn't need one much,
as it's plastic on the bottom. The big coil is the one I
*really* wanted a cover for.. I think I'm gonna see if I can
locate one local tommorow. They have a few garrett dealers
here in town.
After trying the big coil, I can say that the stock coil
ain't half bad as far as depth. It's not far behind the 12
coil. If I only had the stock coil, and were to buy only
one of the two, I'd probably go for the sniper first for maximum
versatility with only one extra coil. But I still like having
all three..
I think the big coil will be pretty good for
"old house" relic scrounging when out in the open areas,
and scanning for deeper coins in semi cleaned out areas.
