questions for uncle willy, grumpy or anyone else that knows the GTI 2500

Hea guys, is it normal for this machine to have the constant "buzzzz" in the headphones. Without the headphones I can still hear(barely though) this "buzzzz". Just wondering if this is normal.

With imagining or non-imagining, does this machine pinpoint the closest target to surface, or the larger, deeper target? I am under the impression it images the strongest signal? Is there a way i can filter out those 12"deep size E's and only scan the surface, say 1st 6-inches?

I have started going to the local schools on the weekends. I simply have to master this 5x10 non-imaging scorcher coil. I have had more luck with the imaging coil, but its so trashed i am probably just lucky to have found anything. Will my 5x10 scorcher coil fit any other detectors, in particularly the Ace 250? I ask because i have considered buying one as a 2nd detector, and would like to make use of the 5x10 coil. Or does the Ace 250 come with a better suited coil for trash areas?

as always, any help, thoughts or advice is surely appreciated

i found if i drop the threshold from 7.9 to 5.5, i don't have the background buzz or hummmmm. And apparently I can't interchange my coils with the Ace 250. But maybe that 4.5 scorcher looks like a tempting investment, but 1st i need to play with the 5x10 more before doing that. I still wonder about imaging multi targets, which is more likely to show up, a larger item deeper or a smaller item near the surface, or do they just kinda get mixed up together.

as always, any help, thoughts or advice is surely appreciated

A couple of thoughts here but no hard facts, If you are considering a second machine like the 250 they make a small scorcher like the 4.5 for that machine and real reasonable from what I can find out. A 250 and an extra small coil for about $250 range, so if you want a second machine this may be an option instead of the 2500 small coil and then a 250 machine. No they dont interchange coils.
As to which target shows up when there are two down there. Well it seems to me they kinda do a combo thing and come up with some space number. Realistically it should pick up the most conductive piece at a given distance if the larger deeper was still more conductive to the point of the coil it should be picked up but if not then the smaller closer one. That mouth full even confused me. In other words which ever metal object had the strongest conductivity at the coil from where it was located should be picked out But like I said I think they are not that sophisticated I think they do a combination and wind up giving you a larger signal than either would alone. Just my opinion but what the heck everybodys got to have one.
I have been on the same thought pattern of getting a 250 for a second machine and a small coil but havent made up my mind yet. I already have a 4.5 for the 2500 so not sure what to do. Hind sight!
Good Luck

Hi Barfly,
The buzzing should be your threshold is turned up a little to much. Turn it down until there is hardly a buzz at all in your headphones.
I also had a cracked coil a few months ago that gave me a loud over load sound all the time.:detecting:

First, turn your threshold down to a faint hum or silent. Your coil signals via the ladder effect, one rung at a time - the coin nearest it gets the only signal. If there is another target under that one it will be invisible to the coil regardless of size until the top target is removed. Your coil can only see and concentrate on one target at a time. The first one nearest the coil that enters the signal cone gets its full attention.

I'm going to do a tutorial on coils to help answer a lot of these questions.
